Wow, Suzie - fascinating stories. I was a fan of Bowe's and felt he had immense potential, though I was very disappointed when he punched Larry Donald in the face. I was shocked when he did that. Any idea what Big Daddy is up to these days?
Probably playing ring o' roses with donkey's, or trying to join the boys brigade seeing as he was too stupid for the marines.
Not long ago you had magical scorecards where Brock was beating Waldo. Not long ago you said Pulev would destroy Waldo and even laid a bet on it... oh, it's fun to reminisce, isnt it?
But he was a former world champion at that weight class. He was also the number one rated contender in the world. Surely that version of him was still a good dangerous fighter and anyone who defeats him deserves a lot of credit for the win Aren't you a big fan of joe Calzaghe? Very similar to Marciano. Undefeated, his two best wins are over old greats No one from any division is going to have an easy night fighting Marciano either
Funny when some Foreman or Bowe fans use this lame bum Bert Cooper example they never mention how bad was Cooper against the tall fighters. Some example: Cooper- 6'3"Gross ltko8 -6'3" Donald ltko7 -6'3.5" old Foreman lrtd2 - 6 4 C. williams lrtd8 - 6 4 C.Sanders ltko3 - 6 4 Ortiz ltko2 -6 4 Carl Davis ltko2 -6 5 Zolkin ltko9 -6 6 Jefferson ltko2 -6 7 anthony green lud8 Honorable mention :Cooper-6'6" Jaco (24-21-1) wud10 (Cooper couldn't knock out this bum.) Nice collection by "Coopy". This shows Cooper was talentless against the tall fighters who can use the Bert Cooper example for Bowe or Foreman ass-licking proves his unlimited ass-licking talent.
It would be a great action fight in which Dempsey prevails. Bowe strikes me as not having enough of the correct anti-venom to win. Dempsey needs to be either taken out or carefully diffused. Foreman has a good chance of blasting the Mauler. The likes of Ali and Holmes have the ability to ride a crisis and then get things back on track. Bowe however is neither the destroyer or the long boxer. He liked to mix it and didn't have the best defence which puts him in a dangerous position against a quick, two-handed puncher. What Holyfield lacked Dempsey has in spades, plus he's lighter on his feet to help him dictate. Bowe's inside fighting ability could trouble Dempsey, especially in a lengthy brawl, but that's counting on Bowe weathering the early storm, and even then it's not as if Dempsey was an empty firework at the halfway mark. For Bowe to win it's going to take time, time he probably doesn't have. The Bowe who beat Evander in '92 was brilliant though a bit stuck in the mud and relied on bossing his opponent physically. Jack may not blitz him and have to tough it out but Bowe is there for those explosive body-to-head combinations, and if he's there for them he's very probably not going to escape them. An early-mid round KO for Dempsey as he racks up too much damage.
I find it hilarious that Bowe is being pulled up for defensive flaws on this one. Dempsey came forward head first with his hands down by his mid section. His defence was non existent and thats why he went out through the ropes against the ordinary Firpo. He had head movement , so did Bowe , but at least Bowe knew how to cover up. He never flayed wildly with two hands like Jacks opponents did. Bowe had great skill and knew to bring one arm back before letting go the other one. Jack wasn't like Holyfield who came in laterally and strafing side to side behind a piston like jab - he just charged in with his hand low and would have been an easy target for Bowe's long right hand. If he battles thru that , he's perfectly lined up for Big Dabby's beaut of an uppercut. Dempsey does a lot better against big guys with zero inside game like Wladimir but Bowe was wrong for him.
According to you Langford was shot at this stage, make your mind up. I know you love to play the race card but as I've stated many times Dempsey is a technically flawed boxer lacking fundamentals that would be exposed by technically sound quicker powerful big men.
I disagree. Dempsey was circling on his toes, going side to side, and even turning and retreating, against Jess Willard, in the first minute of the fight, and in the second and third rounds at times. Against someone like Bowe, who almost as big as Jess Willard and a lot better, I'd expect Dempsey to maintain the cautious hit-and-run, weaving approach for as long as needs be.
On the contrary. Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Liston, Lewis, Holyfield, the brothers Klitchko, prime Joe Louis, and Dempsey, and possibly Frazier. All would have an easy night beating the crude one dimentional Marciano. No S / Middle since the division was created would have an easy night against Calzaghe.
Dempsey would be outgunned and outclassed and ko'd in 2. At least it wouldn't be as humiliating as his loss to fatty Meehan.
