Jack tries to rough George up early, probably scores with a few, but George weather's it, begins to land, and soon the cruiserweight is sent back in time to the day when heavyweights weren't so heavy.
I don't agree with the logic that Foreman beats Dempsey, because he beat Frazier. Dempsey was muchg more varied in his approach, and was generaly smart enough to know when rushing in was a bad idea. He would probably choose to circle and counter Foreman, in which case he would have a good chance. It is honestly the type of fight that could go either way, and frankly the type of fight where the way it was going could change in an instant.
An ironic statment, because a lot of the key position holders in the division in Dempseys day were bigger than Foreman. Dempsey might have been a cruiserweight but he certainly wasnt fighting them.
When has Dempsey ever circled and countered with discipline for an entire fight? He loves to rush in too much. The only argument for Dempsey is he continuously lands first and manages to back up Foreman or put him down, I don't think he does land first though with his lesser reach, low hands and I don't know if he puts Foreman down without Foreman landing back in an exchange
ya, PP is right in that dempsey would keep that circling in and out rhythm for not too long. eventually he'd go in. whether he could keep it up before george got tired is something idunno.
Frazier didn't find out that 'rushing' in was a bad idea because he didn't do that??? Frazier did anything but rush in - go watch the fight again - he didn't rush in at all he plodded after Foreman and did his usual preditable blindly bobbing up and down wish his feet planted to the spot at exactly the range Foreman wanted him and then surprise surprise...Dempsey wouldn't be that predictable at all he would be in and out all the time Foreman would be wafting his gloves out feeling for him and when he got nailed he know about it and start swaying about like a drunkard - Foreman wasn't invincible and Dempsey's speed and ferocious power would make him look like a sitting duck as soon as he was nailed by that lefthook - Dempsey would finish what Ron Lyle couldn't.
I do not see how Dempsey wins this fight. I struggle to see him making it beyond the early rounds. Even with knuckle dusters on.
Yeah..No, first of all Dempsey didnt hit hard enough to bother big George too much, if he can eat Lyle's best shots, Frazier's left hooks, Tommy morrison's best shots, Holyfields best shots, ect. Than he can deffently take Dempseys. Secondly Fraziers defense was just as good if not better than Dempsey's so i cant imagine hes just gonna ''dance around'' a prime George Foreman.
"Oh Ye of Little Faith ". Dempsey knocked guys out as BIG as George Foreman ,and his prime speed ,toughness and tremendous heavy hands would get inside the ponderous swings of bid George. Dempsey was at 190 pounds as strong as a 210 pounder as he was very large and developed from the waist up. Foreman would be catnip for Dempsey at his best. It is a fast punching machine Joe Louis, and the powerful blows of a young Mike Tyson, that would pose the most trouble to the Dempsey of Toledo... Speed kills,as is known, and young Dempsey ,had the body quickness of a WW. P.S. The one-two that flattened Luis Firpo in the second round, was the most impressive example of power and short punching I have ever seen. Check it out. No one survives that ,even George Foreman...
