So the logical step is to discount Eddie Futch's opinions? May I ask you? Is Futch regarded as one of the best trainers and, strategists of alltime? Is his analysis of a fighters strengths , and weaknesses, perceived as being up there with anyone's. On a par with the greatest trainers and, students of boxing there has been? How do you rationalise this general consensus with your own diametrically opposed view? Are we all victims of the" Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome? " All except you of course. That really goes without saying.:yep
Have you forgotten allready? I was the first person to post Smith's quote in its entirety on this forum, look it up. Is MANGER now a permanent part of your vocabulary? You do know you are the only person on this forum who states it was 20rds don't you. I doubt even a deluded simpleton like you seriously believes it anymore. Johnson was tkod in 5 rds by Klondike in 1899, he was described as looking half starved, he floored Klondike in the 1sr round with the bell saving Klondike. A year after this fight, Johnson scaled 168lbs for a fight with Jim McCormick. Johnson retired after the 7th round in a fight against Bob Lawson, he was floored in the 7th and exhausted, he was broke and 48years old. Johnson had gone 15rds to win a decision over 6' 3.5'' 225lbs ,Pat Lester 28 days previously. Vitali Klitschko retired after the 9th round in a fight he was comfortably winning against light hitting ,considerably smaller , 7inches shorter,34lbs lighter Chris Byrd. he was 28 years old. YOU HAVE JUST MUGGED YOURSELF.
that's assuming Lewis is that comfortable behind his jab he chooses to go inside. if he stays at mid range throwing 4-5 punch combos (like vitali did against johnson) then jack won't win using a traditional defence of his. tying up won't gain him any points, especially if he is getting tagged before every clinch. he's need to lure lewis in, make him miss and counter him to death. could he move his head that quick? I don't know. he has the handspeed to counter but I'm not sure he has the headspeed to make Lewis miss.
I hardly see this as the general consensus on this thread. And I have seen great fighters, and even great trainers, give some miserable quotes. We all have. Hell, if we were asked a hundred questions everyday regarding our own occupations we would all say some pretty indefensible things. I am merely offering what I feel to be realistic observations on Johnson's style, and moreso, on the quality of his heavyweight opponents who I find wanting to a great degree when compared to the heavyweights who followed. Where are the Tommy Burns, the Marvin Harts, the 5 foot 9, somewhat pudgy, 180 pound guys who like to play rough in the heavyweight division? Are they a breed extinct? Have their vast holdings of technique and fistic knowledge been lost to the ages? Really? A fighter like Lewis faced a steady progression of 6-2 and up, 225 pound and up guys with amateur training and real, funded professional training. They could throw three punch combinations and bench press a truck. No amount of bicep pinching or man hugging from a 200 pound "giant" was going to dissuade even the mediocrity of this lot. I am not saying Johnson, thrust into the 90's, could not learn to adjust, merely that he provided little evidence of coping with that sorts of offense, as opponents did not present it.
You defend Lewis as though I had picked Johsnon to easily ko him, I haven't even made a pick, I just , challenged some of your complacent[imo ,] assertions, and ,interpretations of Johnson's abilities
Lewis was outboxed, and out jabbed, for the majority of the rounds against slow ,predictable, plodding Bruno.:think
The use of the word majority is valid but doesn't saint the appropriate picture; either man could have been a round up by the stoppage. To be fair to bruno he was one of the better jabbers in the 90's and was it not for his surplus muscles and lack of a boxing iq he could have gone further. Anyways, using that example of a non-peak (before 97) lewis, could you see johnson replicating that game plan to the same degree of success?
You can't honestly beleive half the stuff you write! Who quit more? Vitlai once. Johnson twice, perhaps three times if the Jim Johnson fight was 20 rounds, and not ten. Also Johnson fouled out with low blows. What a coward. Now do the math, loser! In addtion, Vitlai was never floored multiple times by men under 170 pounds, nor was he out boxed by men of the same weight or any weight. He would kick Johnson's rear end six ways to Sunday.
I not only beleive it, I can readily prove it, it is a matter of public record. Johnson was tkod by Klondike in 1899 when he was around the middle/super middle weight limit. He weighed 168lbs for a fight a year later Johnson retired between the 7th and 8th rounds against Bob Lawson when he was 48 years old, he had fought 15 rds to a dec win, with Pat Lester 28 days earlier , Lester was 6' 3.5'' 225lbs. [I would not normally underline key phrases but then I wouldn't normally be conversing with a moron] Muhammad Ali retired between rds 10/11, against Larry Holmes ,Ali was 37. Joe Frazier retired between rds 14/14, against Ali ,he was 31. What cowards! ONCE MORE IT IS VITALI, NOT VITLAI.atsch It's only six words, you can do it! Practise typing it in your spare time. Do you know you are mentally deficient ? What an excellent way to round off my late breakfast ,thank you Rainman :good
So I see you still jerk off to typo's. You make plenty of them too. For example in your above post you can't seem to spell the word Practice correctly. But in this case its not a typo.atsch . Now repeat after me, Johnson quit more in the ring that Vitali did. Fact!
Boy ,have you just made complete **** of yourself. PRACTISE definition,[Odhams Complete English Dictionary] to carry out, ,do as a custom ,or regular performance, to constantly perform some action, to become skilled in its exercise, to carry out an activity, to become skilled in its performance. Now repeat after me, I must refrain from engaging in a war of words, because I am mentally ******ed and, unable to write ,or spell the English language, sufficiently competently to reach the level of a sub normal chimpanzee. Here ,I'll put some embarrassed emoticons up for you. . Now, **** off you silly ****. And ,thanks for the laugh:hi:
