If you showed people today clips of all of these fighters, without context, they would all say that Burns was the best of the bunch, and that Ketchell was the worst.

They would fall off their chair backwards, if you told them that Ketchell had better results vs common opponents, than Burns.

Despite Johnson’s size advantage, they would be shocked that he was able to control Burns so easily, based on better speed and reflexes!

It’s not the fact that Johnson dominates Burns; it’s how he dominates him.

Jack Johnson would have no clue how to box against modern boxers. Even this old version of Hopkins would beat him, yet alone Kovalev

You might be shocked to know that I would not be at all shocked about a cruiserweight dominating a very short super middle-weight.

    I would not.

But it might perhaps interest you, if he was doing it because he was simply faster, as opposed to because he was bigger.

Watch Burns against other big fighters, and then watch him against Johnson.

I honestly think that Johnson could have beaten him if they had been the same size!

That is coming from somebody who has argued for Burns getting a pound for pound ranking!

Burns at 168. Langford at 156. Both times Johnson was under 200 pounds. I'll comment later on how I see these two fantasy matches going.

    Hello Janitor,

??? Kovalev is bigger more skilled and hits harder than almost all of Johnson title opponents. I fail to see your point. Help me understand a bit, or see the weights and records of then men he fought, and compare that to Kovalev who is roughly 186 pounds on fight night.

Tua was in a loaded era. You need to be durable to beat him, and throw a lot of punches / move to keep him off, or hit hard enough to keep him off.

Johnson is 0-2, and if iffy on the " throw a lot of punches / moves to keep him off/away "

    Van,

I agree, but when you talk about Johnson, many of his best name victories are vs. green and young types ( McVey a teenager, Jeannette, a raw novice with a sometimes losing record and Langford, who was just 20 and 156 pounds )or past their prime types ( Jeffries 5 years off 300+ pounds )

He beat Tommy Bruns, 5'7" tall, 168 pounds. That's probably his best win and it took 14 rounds to do it. Burns was at a lower weight, and a book and the best black historian of these times say he had something of a Jaundice.

In his title fights, Johnson struggled vs. a 160 pound Jack O'Brien, who primary sources felt outboxed this alleged defensive wizard with jabs, got floored by another super middle in Ketchel, got TKO'd in an exhibition match by Gun Boat Smith, who at the time was a hot prospect and should have received a title fight, and failed to finish quite a few easy marks. All this while avoiding prime versions of Langford, Jeanette, and Mcvey, who were measurably better in 1909-1914.

The best heavyweight Johnson likely fought was Willard, and he lost that one via KO.

When Johnson fought guys that were seasoned but not past it, he lost to Choynski, Griffin and Hart.

So it is factual to say that Jack Johnson is unproven vs. the best in their prime and lost to the best heavyweight fighters he meets when they were in their prime.

Johnson fought many of his most famous matches when he had the age and experience advantage.

Kovalev likely TKo's him late, and Tua based on Johnson low hands, stationary feet, questionable chin when hit by punches, and limited firepower for Tua to fear likely catches him. So unless you think Tua didn't hit as hard as Choynski who KO'd Johnson cold or Gunboat Smith who knocked him silly in a 4 round exhibition match to the point where the NY Times said his manager had to halt the match and the round, he's losing via KO TO Tua.

    Best guesses:

Kovalev TKO around round 8. Scorecards could be close

    Tua KO inside six rounds.

The underlined are lies you insist on repeating,I know it and you know it.Burns stated he was in excellent shape for Johnson and we have the primary sourced quotes to prove it!

Burns gave public sparring sessions right up to the fight and all reporters agreed he was in terrific condition.Fortunately we have a ton of research to back this up!

Jeffries never scaled 300+ pounds and he was down to weight over a year before he fought Johnson.
O Brien did not weigh in for the Johnson NO DECISION bout but he was estimated to weigh 172+pounds.
Smith was NOT a"hot prospect," he had only turned pro a few months earlier, had a total of 5 fights under his belt and had lost to the only decent man he had met Denver Ed Martin.
It was NOT an exhibition bout it was a SPAR and
    NO DECISION WAS GIVEN.
Primary sources do NOT say O Brien outboxed Johnson.

Johnson finished the NO DECISION bout unmarked, O Brien was marked up and bleeding and he was floored during the fight.

This is an excellent example of why I thoroughly despise you .

You are a compulsive liar, using lies to bolster your hate agenda against Johnson.

Make my summer ,come to NEW YORK in July!

Excellent shape? BULL S&hit. He was at a low weight ( when he needed to be heavier ), and I can show you two sources that say he wasn't 100% healthy. We have been over this. When I have the facts, you ignore them. Proven 100 times here:lol::lol:

Oh, he gave public sparring sessions!!! So what:hi:

That's not what we read. He was heavy and had to lose 50+ pounds for sure. But more than that he had not fought in six years, and was 35.

Box rec said less than that :deal. I posted primary sources that said O'Brien was the better in the six round. Once again your too dense o learn. What we have here is a super middle making a prime heavyweight champion look bad. Where was this defense to avoid the smaller man's jab?

For a while, he was a hot prospect with wins over Langford, ( who Johnson avoided giving a title match to ) and wins over Willard and Moran. At any rate, he TKO'd Johnson in a ring when Johnson was in his prime, and Smith green. Lol

If I lived in NY it would be your most painful summer ever as long as we are in a combat ring. But I don't live there. Keep pounding your chest over 1,000 miles of distance:lol::lol::lol:

PS: I'm glad you despise me. I will call out your bigotry and lies when I see fit here. I have fun with it at times.

PPS: Are you going to make picks or attempt to hide without making one? Johnson vs. Tua and Kovalev is the topic.

Why do you keep repeating your posts, they don't get any better second time around!

I can show many ,many primary sources that directly contradict all your lies including first hand verbatim quotes from Burns himself, and we both know it.
Dec 23rds ,3 days before the fight Burns did his final public sparring." The champion appeared to be in splendid condition"
"Burns Said he was down to the weight at which he beat Bill Squires in America."That he never felt better or fitter in his life".
    "

    1. The NY Times did not have a reporter at the sparring session between Smith and Johnson.
2.Smith in a taped interview never claimed to have tko'd or kod Johnson, he said he put him through the ropes in sparring.
3..Smith was not a prospect when he sparred with Johnson he had 5 fights at that time losing one of them. Here is your post both underlined statements are deliberate lies.
"In his title fights, Johnson struggled vs. a 160 pound Jack O'Brien, who primary sources felt outboxed this alleged defensive wizard with jabs, got floored by another super middle in Ketchel, got TKO'd in an exhibition match by Gun Boat Smith, who at the time was a hot prospect and should have received a title fight
You cannot get tko'd in SPARRING ,will you ever accept that?
I pick Johnson to beat Kovalev by decision and Tua too. Johnson beat his Tua in McVey a big left hooker who outweighed him and whom he floored multiple times.

You won't come to NY ,you sh*t your pants when I asked for your arrival times into the UK,

When you were safely back in the US you revealed you had been in the UK and, when I asked why you hadn't acknowledged my pms and public messages you bleated ,"who wants trouble at an airport?"

Now, next time you make an agenda driven post about Johnson ,try and spell his name right!

Size is not the question. Kovalev is an unproven lt hwt. If he ever proves himself as a lt hwt then think of how he could do fighting a hwt. Thinking of Putting an unproven lt hwt in the ring with a boxing master and ATG hwt is amateur mentality.

Their is no reason why prime Johnson would not completely nullify a one dimensional fighter like Tua. It would be a one sided boxing lesson.
