GGG can not be careless like he gets from time to time, it because he is so confident but he has a fine defense it is just that he loves to go on the defensive. With the knowledge of Jackson's power GGG boxes smart and breaks Jackson down and out
As a pro, Golovkin has never fought anybody with the skill and power of Jackson, so I believe it is too early to make a call on this matchup. If GGG can knock out proven fighters like Froch or Ward, an argument for him beating Jackson would become reasonable. As of now, the jury is still out in my opinion.
I wouldn't say that. He had very solid fundamentals and punch for punch he was not only as powerful but also as sharp as just about anyone I've ever seen. The problem is more that he didn't put his punches together that much and also lacked variation. Every punch was thrown to kill more or less and that made him more predictable. Golovkin is a better combination puncher and more patient and scientific. He also seems to have a harder jaw. But on the other hand Jackson's superior hand speed and reach (I think) would probably see him get off first, and then we would really get to know the solidity of Golovkin's chin and survival instincts. But, you know, in a contest between two huge punchers, the more well rounded one most often comes out on top, so I'm going with Golovkin. Far from a certainty, though.
Froch and Ward are super middleweights and Froch is retired. I believe GGG would win, but let's see how he fares against Lemieux, the winner of Cotto\Canelo and possibly Lee.
I don't like Jackson as a middle anywhere near as much as 154. I think lots of guys are and were tough tough matches for Julain at 160. Remember when the toney fight was talked about for 18 months or so? Anyone picking Julian in that one? He looks good against the Cardamone's of the world but even him facing McClellan was a big step up for Jackson. He was fed a diet of Dennis Miltons and so forth and not facing the 160 pounders that could give him trouble. And when he got older and had some wear and tear, he got stopped by the Quincy Taylor type guys. When was the last time you heard Quincy Taylor mentioned, by the way? I don't like, but love Triple G in this.
Nice-- just rewatched the Jackson-Taylor fight earlier this year! (Undercard of Tyson-McNeeley-- Bobby Czyz and the guys in the booth spent half the fight complaining about it).
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl BS stoppage my ass. He was on rubber legs, and the final salvo was 10 unanswered punches when the ref jumped in. Furthermore it is out right lies to say McCallum was out on his feet himself. Jackson hit him with everything he had in the first, and fukk all happened. He was dropped and rightly stopped in the second. Deal with it.
Smokin Bert, this is Non Smokin Burt, why would you ask a GGG to knock out a Froch or Ward who are truly LHs that would have beaten the MW Julian Jackson ?. Jackson and GGG would have been a middleweight slugfest after all...We should today appreciate GGG as the most feared fighter today, and as a middleweight....Too bad he faces such mediocre MW competition, but it is not GGG's fault...
He was probably a bit past his best for McClellan, though, and likely shot for Taylor. Agree that he was at his best at 154.
McCallum himself admits he was out on his feet in the first round against Jackson, and very close to being taken out.
Dennis Milton was no slouch (beating Olajide, McClellan et al) and neither was Thomas Tate, or Herol Graham!
