James "chunky" Degale

I think he was scheduled to rematch Anderson and then Stielgitz for the world title but had to pull out of the fights due to injury which can happen.

 

If you believe he pulled out of the Anderson rematch because of injury you'll believe anything.

Because he got sniff that he was going to fight Stiegletz,its all bull **** ! Thing is i cant blame him for taking the bigger fight ,just dont BS the public who boughtt tickets

 

Well He has already stopped Anderson.

 

Groves and Anderson is in play for September 15th apparently, Well Paul Smith has different ideas .

 

yes he has , i get that but your missing the point . He made out he injured himself ,when it was common knowledge he was getting the WBO shot?

you thinki as a manager its ok to take the **** out the general public like that? no wonder boxing is dire state with folk with your atitudes playing your part in running

 

I am not privy to what happened with the contest between Groves and Anderson rematch though it looks like it's been rescheduled.

 

DeGale has lots of problems. He did himself great damage last year with his horrendous 'public' (he might be great in private) personality, which really came to the fore against Groves. People didn't really know 'chunky' until that fight so it was his first proper introduction to boxing fans, rather than boxing egg-heads. What a fail. Maybe it was in due part to the contrasting and quality way that George Groves handled himself while being given such unneccesary verbal abuse. Remember when 'Chunky' did the nose-holding thing calling George 'ugly, ginger boy'? That **** is P.R. suicide unless you have the tongue-in-cheek quality so apparant in Naseem or even Eubank Sr.

Then there's the fact that he is not, say, Eubank or Naseem either. People will repsect an attitude - and pay up to see it - if we're talking top quality fighters. With DeGale I don't see how anyone can make the case he is anything other than a decent talent. Half his shots are open-gloved, something obvious after watching him fight for two minutes. Someone said up the page he is great at not getting hit. They obviously didn't see his mush after the Groves fight then.

I wouldn't say he is going to be box office anyway because (and this is a little mean but true) the lad is already slurring his words and tripping himself up verbally and he's only in his early 20's. ("Da Butures Fright... Da Butures Chunky!"). It also points to the fact that he keeps getting pounded on his conker in sparring.

I think DeGale needs some help. Forget trainers and all that ****, that will come. What he really needs is a manager to make a fight somewhere towards the Groves/DeGale fight scale of things, in terms of public interest. He needs to rehabilitate himself with the public because he hasn't the personality or talent to be a "hilarious, bad-ass guy who is just that good that he takes the **** out of his opponents then dances to the ring like a rock star before dishing out a beatdown and brutal knockout and being undefeated"..... which I think is what he had in his head. He should change tack and try to win back the more casual punter to his side so he actually gets a cheer in the ring. That, for him, is money in the bank and worth a belt.

 

Massive talent with glaring flaws in his game, getting involved in a battle with Fwank isnt going to help his future.

I dont think he will ever fufill his potential

 

What was he supposed to come out and say then brains???

Do you not think that if he said he was puliing out of the Anderson fight because he got a better offer, he wouldn't be liable to all sorts of compensation claims from Andersons team??

Everyone knows that he wasn't injured, but he went after the fight that would - a) give him a bigger pay day, b) give him a world title, as imo he would have comfortably beaten Steiglitz.

This stuff happens all the time, and not just in boxing either. Answer me this - what would you have done in Groves position?? :think

 

I think DeGale is a great prospect. I felt Groves outpointed him, but other than that he has looked very good. The worry I have with DeGale is that he takes so many punches, though he has been stepped up very quickly and risen to the challenges, but I wonder if these tough fights are taking a toll on him.
