James DeGale and George Groves happened too soon.

OP is bad for boxing. This was the perfect time for it to happen. 2 young, hungry, undefeated champs. One moves on and one rebuilds. Both are talented and skilled and have gained invaluable experience.

Frank being Frank is all upset about a loss when in reality both fighters had a gut check and passed. They showed talent and skill to take them to the next level, be it European or maybe even world class.

 

I think the fight with Degale showed George has significantly improved, his defence was better and his ringcraft too and he used his best muscle his brain!

 

You say it happened too soon, they should of been kept apart. There's a problem with that...

Look at the Gamboa v Lopez scenario. Bob Arum said it's too soon for them to fight, the fight should be hyped up so it make's more sense financially... BOOM Lopez get's beaten, which now take's that "unbeaten shine" off the Gamboa v Lopez fight if it ever take's place.

What if this had of happened with DeGale and Groves? Kept apart to make more money and one end's up losing their 0. Fair enough it'd still be a good fight because of their hatred toward's each other but the shine has gone.

 

Correct,just look at the intrest and publicity boxing has recieved in this country because of this fight.Fighters are way too protected and that is why boxing is not as popular as it could be.Degale can come again,he hasnt been beaten up or anything.

 

His defense was better, although I cant help but think he was aided by De Gale(head hunting)somewhat. De Gale didn't apply enough! pressure, which gave Groves just enough thinking time to navigate his way around the ring without getting trapped. Against someone who actually cuts the ring off, applies a little more pressure to take away his thinking time, his footwork will get him trapped imo.

 

I disagree with the thread title. Far too often, fights aren't made and people avoid each other for too long. We watched a very good fight on Saturday night and whilst De-Gale will naturally be disappointed with the loss he still has a long way to go.

Only ****en idiots who worship guys with the 'zero' will read too much into this.
