Hopefully we are entering a new period in boxing, which is similar to boxing of many years ago and also similar to MMA.

Super 6, Fab 4 etc are hopeful all signs of fighters stepping up to find their level by fighting the best.

Are you going to tell Frank Warren, or shall I?

I believe the speed at which Warren is moving Degale has nowt to do with a brave new world and everything to do with the money Degale demands per his contract, and thus the level of fights Warren must deliver to make the sums add up.

My worry is that a fighter such as DeGale could win a belt on talent alone (against a weaker holder) but then that puts him in the firing line to face elite fighters. There will be limited space for further learning fights and DeGale hasn't even been hit yet.

It's one thing winning a title, but the real glory is in keeping it and putting yourself in a position to unify. DeGale stands a better chance of doing this by upping the level of opposition slowly.

If I were him, I'd beat up Groves, then look for Magee, then one world ranked and then kick on. I don't get the rush - Warren/DeGale will make more money if DeGale is in a position to hold his title rather than just win one.

Facinating match up, in which I would pick Degale to win.
Its a great idea but the only thing that stands out is that if DeGale wins the regular WBA title he should fight against world class opponents and even though I think he can hold his own (even though we havent yet seen him in a crisis), im not sure Warren would be willing to risk it against the top SMWs. Still DeGale could learn his trade beating other world class fighters who are under the best like Gutknecht, Balzsay, Dirrell, Abraham, Magee and have a unification against Steiglitz which id pick DeGale to win

I really don't think that Green is the pushover that some of you seem to. He's not going to come out and fight like he did against Ward against DeGale. Don't forget, he was up on the cards when he was stopped by Johnson.

:D Yeah a home cooking was in the making. He had really tough time with Tarvis Simms , He went the distance with Rubin Williams who imediatly after that got Ko'ed by pilow fisted Ward ,by Chris Henry by Gutknecht and Les Sherrington.
Don't forget he got outboxed by Edison Miranda.

Yeah I think I had Johnson up 5-2, or something like that tbf. My point was, he isn't so bad that you would want to put a 9 fight novice in with him.

Yes he is. :yep If the 9 fight novice has some talent. You don't think Degale is at least a little better then Tarvis Simms ?

He certainly does... but judging by some of the comments in the DeGale vs Pavlik thread the other week his talent is being overstated. There is no need to rush him. I'm not saying to do a Mitchell but getting him a Lonsdale belt and the European this year wouldn't do him any harm.
