Round 10 Macklin jabs and jogs. Varon rolls along after him and tries to punch his way in but finds Macklin curling his shoulders in and getting into a hedgehog stance that results in Varon just running into him and getting into a clinch. They roughhouse a bit when the referee fails to split them. Macklin is hopping backward on his toes, laying in wait by the ropes and then pounding Varon with a hard hook when he gives chase.

Round 11 Varon is slicing the air between their chests with sidearms, forcing Macklin to grab and push him away. Hard jabs get through for Varon when he loops them a bit around the right glove of Macklin. They stand in close and trade to the body, with Macklin trying to box Varon's hears on the way into the trench. Both flurry and block until they clinch up, over and over. Both look tired but keep punching at a high clip.
Round 12 Macklin is avoiding the rough stuff and remaining on the outside, with a 1-2-3 combo resulting in a clinch as Varon blocks and their arms get typically netted. Varon is trying to puncture a lung with as hard a body attack as he can muster. Macklin is now meeting him punch for punch on the inside, and working in some nasty uppercuts. Macklin continues to tire and Varon lands a pair of big right hands. Macklin's head snaps back, and he is cut and breathing out of his mouth. His mouthpiece comes out. Varon pounces on him after the interruption but Macklin is able to bicycle to safety and clinches just before the bell. 10-9 Varon
Macklin's face is a mess. Entertaining fight but Macklin proves to be no world class material. The fight can be scored either way although I doubt Varon's getting the decision in UK.

Macklin showed his shortcomings tonight and isn't good enough for the highest level. I thought he deserved the nod but that was very hard work.
Not really. Varon pushed him to the limit but didn't plant his flag in nearly enough rounds. 6, 9 and 12 were his only clear ones IMO. Any other rounds you could even think of giving Varon were extremely close.
