I will love to see Toney's bitchass quit when he is submission. That would be classic, a guy like Toney quitting
i think randy wins easily. here is my take on toney winning the fight. (im a boxing fan first) everyone that thinks toney is going to win by ko is forgetting one thing, james toney has never ko'ed a heavyweight he has some tko's but no ko's and hardly any knock downs. sure toney could beat couture standing but i really don't think he has the one punch ko power his mouth would have you beleive, therefore i see couture winnign even if toney does land a couple punches (which he won't couture can shoot from outside punching distance).
If Toney strikes intelligently (timing and range), mixes in the odd strike or sub keep Randy mentally on guard PLUS is ready to defend MMA (strikes, takedowns, subs, trips etc) then he can win. IF he wants to be the guy who fought in heavyweight boxing then he'll immediately be taken down and decimated.
This isn't Maurice Smith vs Mark Coleman. Smith could throw low kicks, and was a natural heavyweight. Coleman may have wrestled at a higher level than Couture, in their respective disciplines, but Couture is by far the superior submission grappler of the two. Smith did not have to learn near as much about submissions as Toney will need on the ground against Couture. Even if Toney were a phenomenal bjj student, like BJ Penn, how much can he learn in 12 weeks? How much did Penn know after 12 weeks? If this fight gets to a clinch, Toney is finished. There is no way a natural middleweight with limited grappling skills can expect to last grappling with Couture. The one thing Toney does have going for him that Smith didn't is he isn't facing Coleman's shot. That doesn't mean Randy can't have success shooting for Toney's legs, but it won't be near what Smith was up against. Working with King Mo will give Toney an excellent view of what he is up against, as I'm sure his shot is more explosive than Couture's. Toney will be able to work on footwork and angles from which to set up his punches, and avoid the takedown for as long as possible. I will be shocked if this fight goes more than 3 minutes. Toney has a chance with his speed and punching accuracy, but he has to end it before Randy closes the distance even once.
im worried about toneys legs getting kicked because of his lazy footwork, but maybe toney will fight completely different with mma rules.
Toney is getting is fat ass sub'ed no doubt about it and I"m a huge boxing fan, if this were a boxing match of course toney would destroy him,, one thing I know toney won't be knocked out
But you forget that James Toney is a natural athlet, you can't go with the normal standards. He was a evry good football player as well. Look at his boxing skills, he does things that can't be taught. I dont see the fight ending if it goes to the ground. Toney has a good chin, a lot of heart and strength to go with it.Sure, Couture has the edge there but the fight will go back upstairs.
Experience is also a huge factor in this. If Toney throws a lazy leg kick, he will be put on his back quickly. Toney has to remember he is a boxer who can put Randys lights out but if his ego gets in the way of learning the rest of MMA then he will be made an example of.
