Old Walcott was able to reduce Rocky's output with counters and footwork. A fit, young Toney at 190 would do the same and increasingly win every exchange. Toney KO10
It is a legitimate match up as Toney was an exceptional fighter ... I see Rocky being too well conditioned over 15 rounds .. over 12 maybe Toney but 15 it's Rocky ... Toney may very well survive but punching output and power favor Marciano ..
I called it a draw. It would probably be controversial. Dirty. Mean. I'm concerned about Rocky cutting and wondering at the upper limit of the greatest lb4lb chin in boxing. Can James eat that punch? I tend to think so. He ate Sam Peter's. Can he eat them for 15 rounds? Was he that damn good off the back foot that not even Rocky could crack the shell? James slices him up and stops him on a cut. James can't eat the power and gets one shotted. James can take the power and a war ensues Rocky breaks him down over the 15. James Ud's him over 12. Who knows?
Marciano with a 116-112 type decision, Toney does real well and makes Marciano look foolish in spurts but overall Marciano's activity is way too much for Toney, I don't think he stops or even knocks down Toney but I believe he would rock him a few times.
Every body talks about james like he was some economical perfectionist and not the only guy to land over 400 punches in IIRC 5 different championship fights. For a guy who fought largely off the counter James threw a **** ton of punches very accurately.
I'm going Rocky by decision mostly bc of workrate, but man a motivated Toney could well take it. Also, I can't understand how one would think he possibly gets KOed in there given his insane chin and defense
