He may not have reached world level, but I don't see how this can be detrimental to rating him as the most exciting fighter British fighter of the last 10 years. Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton were more talented and accomplished more (I don't think there is any disputing that) but they weren't, in my opinion, involved in as many exciting fights as Jamie even though they reached world level. They had some entertaining fights, Ricky had Thaxton and Castillo, Joe had Delaney and Kessler for example, but Jamie had 3 domestic FOTY's (all 3 better than the previously aforementioned fights Hatton and Calzaghe had in my opinion), and arguably in the greatest domestic fight of the decade. Give me Moore vs Macklin over ANY of Ricky's or Joe's fights :good Obviously it is all down to opinions hence why I put 'arguably' into the sentence, but I do feel Jamie should be, in terms of excitement, in everybody's top 5 British fighters of the decade.
The 2nd for all the wrong reasons  But when we got the war we did in the 3rd fight, I can sort of forgive Dave Parris in the 2nd fight :yep:good
You probably know I'm very close to Rhodes. From the couple of weeks before their epic fight, up until the present day, these two have kept in touch, even sitting together at the Boxing Awards dinner in London. I often sit back and think - how do you do that ? Hard hard rounds of boxing, using every shot in the book, intent on being the victor, then after the event its hugs and congratulations. I'm the wrong side of 50 now, and I've seen boxing all over the world, and the conclusion is summarised in two words. RESPECT and CLASS. Jamie's got it by the boat load, as has my mate Rhodes. I don't want to see Jamie having another go for the sake of it. Everything has to be right, his mental state, his physical state, and his ambition. As a fan I hope he does come back, but please Jamie only if you're 100% right. I know that Jamie has suffered with his shoulder. It wasn't long ago he was being operated on for at least the second time. Maybe things weren't right there, I don't know. When someone like Jamie pulls out of a fight like he did Saturday, everyone wants a reason - but you know sometimes in this hard hard sport we all love, time just catches up with you. A great family man, a great sportsman. All the best from Team Rhodes mate, and whatever your decision, thanks for the memories.
.... and if Mooere Rhodes doesn't get domestic fight of the season, then there's no justice. It had everything. That will be another record set by Jamie - three awards for fight of the year.
most exciting british fighter in the last 10 years IMHO. Hope hes not finished yet but good luck to him whatever he decides
Dont know why you dissagree with him here.He blatantly had very good skills and was blatantly promoted/managed wrong and his career stalled to the point it is/was a joke. One of the best british fighters never to win world title imo
Not really much I can say on this thread that hasn't been said already. I met Jamie when I boxed in the Army, he was a gent from the moment we met him until the end of the night. Stayed around in the ring post show for the lads to have photo's and then even came over to the mess later on to have a chat with us all. In my lifetime he is the best fighter never to have won a world title let alone not having fought for one. I genuinely think that under Frank Warren Jamie would have had a crack at a title and would have more than likely picked it up too. Crying shame that he never got the chance and off the top of my head now I can pick at least 5 fighters from Britain who both fought AND won an ABC strap who didn't deserve it ANYWHERE near as much, however thats not for here. Jamie was a superb lad, a cracking fighter and an proper warrior. I wish him all the best in what ever he decides to do from here on out, be that carrying on, moving into training, commentating, or simply leaving the sport behind. All I hope is that he holds his head up high and realises that the people (like me and all posters on not just this site, but others too) respect the way he went about his business. He has done far, FAR too much in his career not to be proud of himself :good
he might not retire but Jamie was great to watch and a great credit to the sport of boxing. unlucky he didnt go furthur.
This is a very interesting point. I know Warren gets a lot of stick, and i'm not exactly a fan of his myself, but if Mooresy had aligned himself with Warren, there's a fair chance that we would be talking about a world champ.
Good call, true fighter, never ducked anyone, went about it the right way and was in some terrific wars, quality fighter. 100% Respect for Jamie Moore
