Seems that he doesn’t like boxing and views it as burden. Fighters like that tend to fold quickly under adversity. I think if they put him in with a tough journeyman that gives no quarter like a Carlos Takam he’ll be in a lot of trouble.

I think y'all are reading way too much into this interview. He's just nervous about fighting in front of his home crowd. He'll probably be okay, though like I said I think he caught a break with Martin stepping in because Martin is coming to lose.

That’s what everyone said when he fought Makhmudov and he took his best shots and made him look bad. Yoka was supposed to beat him easy too and look what happened there. I want to see Anderson fight a guy who can take his power and isn’t afraid to exchange.

People should not be calling this a step up. Jerry Forrest is a better fighter with better performances than Charles Martin. Robbery loss vs Franklin, Hunter got a gift draw vs him and he has a draw vs Zhang. Forrest>>>Martin.

Zhan has better wins than Martin, too. Even Zhan's resume isn't good enough to put him with Forrest, but at least he has multiple decent wins, unlike Martin.

Is that the same guy that recently said he doesn't love boxing. He seems confident and happy walking into the ring but under the surface there seem to be doubts.

Now he might catch glassjoetitis from Roy. I also learned that horses have wheels.

Mutual opponent: Forrest was starched in 2 rounds by Washington, Martin outboxed and starched Washington in 6 rounds.

Martin is a much bigger man and puncher, as well as a former titlist with experience in a much bigger fight than Forrest (albeit one where he was destroyed). Although Zhang deserves great credit for surviving considering his post-round 4 collapse, it's amazing that Forrest lacked the firepower to take out a completely gassed heavybag over 6 rounds. Oddsmakers had Forrest as twice the underdog that Martin is and Anderson's stock is higher now post-Forrest, which tells me that Martin is regarded as a considerably better/more dangerous fighter.

If you had to pick one man to defend you from Anderson, do you pick the post-Pulev Forrest or the post-Ortiz Martin? I'd definitely take Martin, though I'd probably be dead either way.

Semi sad to see. I feel him, remember doing so good at amateur wrestling and I just didn't want to be there. Essentially forced by the coaches/parents.. but I defiantly don't regret it Hopefully Jared can find his peace mentally with all of this coming over him. The whole thing makes me respect him a whole lot more though, rare to see someone come out crying like this over the sport.

That's true, but it's not as solid of evidence as you think given the circumstances of those fights. In the case of Forrest, he lost to Washington a decade ago, when he also lost every round vs Hunter, who he later beat.

Triangle theory is useful, but just to illustrate its flaws, Kownacki beat Martin who beat Washington who beat Helenius who beat Kownacki. The reason I didn't factor their performance vs Washington very strongly into their overall ranking as far as their status as fighters now is that Forrest did this a decade ago and in my mind has shown significant improvement, both in the eye-test and in results.

Also, as far as you pointing out that Martin is generally viewed as a better fighter, I agree that Martin is rated as the better fighter by the general population. That is what I was arguing against in the first place. There is reason to believe Martin is better as they have a mutual opponent that Martin beat and Forrest lost to, but Forrest lost to that opponent a decade ago, and went on to beat better fighters than some of the guys Martin lost to. Martin didn't beat a better fighter than Pulev, Anderson or in my opinion, Takam (although I suppose that could be a discussion too) while Forrest beat Hunter and drew Zhang, who are both regarded as better fighters than Kownacki and who have both had better careers than Kownacki. And this happened a lot more recently. Washington beating Forrest and losing to Martin could be due to Forrest improving, or it could just be styles.

I'll admit that the matter wasn't as clear as I implied that it was. It can be argued to be close in a head to head sense, but Forrest has definitely had the better career.

    "beat Hunter"

Hunter officially got a draw, Franklin got a SD. The consensus is that they didn't deserve it but A-side politics have to be taken into account. Hunter turned up thinking he would win easily as he did early on in his career and had a terrible performance, it wasn't the Hunter that fought Usyk, Bakole, Kuzmin, Povetkin. Zhang had a health problem post-round 4 vs Forrest, which is the only reasonable explanation for why he was able to go 12 with Hrgovic 18 months later, with many thinking he did enough to win. Veterans Takam and Pulev beat Forrest with relative ease, despite both men seeing better days.

"Forrest has definitely had the better career."

Charlie Martin is a former "world champion" with millions in the bank and he presumably hasn't been beaten up too much. On the other hand, his career has been extremely humiliating, whereas Forrest has had a respectable career as a journeyman/gatekeeper who comes to fight.

In terms of who has the better results (excluding losses, which Forrest has twice as many of) on paper, it's Forrest imo (Zhang D10, Hunter D10 > Dawejko KO4, Washington KO6). But Forrest has consistently proven that he lacks the punching power to take matters into his own hands and win a fight when the officials are against him, as they always are. He's also not iron-chinned (Washington KO2, Anderson KO2). And he's heavily dependent on the element of surprise, which hasn't worked at all when he's fought diligent and healthy opponents.

It's fair to say that the Washington fight is almost 10 years ago for Forrest but the Kownacki fight is almost 5 years ago for Martin and the latter was a far better performance for the loser. Kownacki also started boxing at 15 to Washington's 27 iirc, so it's not like Forrest fought the best version of Washington either. And Forrest was skilled, fit and tough enough at that stage to go the 8 round distance with a well conditioned Hunter, as he showed in his next fight.

There's a good chance that late sub Martin gets blown out by Anderson in a round but Martin's a big heavyweight with power and experience, including experience of KO'ing much better opponents than Forrest ever has. Even if Forrest would beat Martin, which I doubt, Martin has to be considered the more dangerous when pitted against a hungry prospect.

Yeah but the issue is that opponents can see this weakness whereas normally fighters, especially heavyweights conceal emotion. Also the fact that he might not actually want to continue his career when the going gets tough or that he is only doing it because of others around him encouraging him to when he doesn't want to
