Chavez is under-rated! Chavez had a bigger heart than Duran. Chavez in his prime wouldn't back down from anyone. No way it's an easy fight. I don't know much about the comp that Duran fought in his prime. Chavez is my fave boxer of all time but Duran was a ****ing monster. Chavez KO!
i mean of course Duran is gonna win this thread, they have similar styles and Duran is universally recognized as the greater fighter.
In other words "I don't know anything about Duran, but I love Chavez! Chavez by KO!" Do you even try to be taken seriously?
Dream matchup if there's ever been one, but I have to go with Duran. Too versatile, and tough as a mutha****in coffin nail.
Chavez would need to have Tyson like power at lightweight to even think about knocking out Duran. And the reality and factual evidence of the matter in question, he doesn't posseses such power. Vice versa for Duran slamming Chavez to the canavas for the full 10 count. The only way this fight would be stopped inside the distance, cuts or either taking a barrage and not in a position to defend themselves. This fight has distance written all over it, even though both are monsters when it comes to aggression with fearsome reputations. The balance of their durability and power each have points to a decision.
I'm going for Chavez. Chavez never lost @ lightweight. Duran lost as a lightweight champ. Chavez dealt with Taylor and he had fantastic speed and skills. Duran was tough but Chavez was tougher. Duran quit vs Leonard and Duran was KTFO by Hearns (granted Hearns shot would have done that to almost anyone). I think Chavez would grind down Duran a lot like he did Rosario and score a TKO or Duran quits on his stool.
1) Duran lost at lightweight, but never in a world title fight. The loss came against Esteban De Jesus when he showed up less than 100 percent. He was 13-0 with 12 knockouts in title fights as a lightweight. 2) The problem with saying Chavez would grind down Duran like he did with Rosario is that Duran was easily twice the fighter Rosario could ever have hoped to be. On the inside, Duran was clearly more crafty, better defensively, and much more fluid. I'd say his offensive attack was more unpredictable than Chavez and he utilized feints better too. I can't see Chavez landing enough to grind Duran down. Duran most likely lands more shots in close. Like Robbi said, this fight has "distance" written all over it. 3) Duran quit against Leonard out of pure frustration, not because he was getting brutalized or beat up. Duran would welcome a toe to toe fight with Chavez and wouldn't quit on his stool.
ds That doesn't mean Chavez can't. Both had similar styles. Both would go toe to toe and I see Chavez as the one with the bigger heart and chin. One has to fall, I would bet anything that Chavez would prevail.
Not necessarily - both had great durability and proven chins at the highest level. But fair enough:good
I agree with you. Chavez is my fave fighter so I'm clearly leaning towards him. I am not a blind fan though, I do think Duran has the same amount of chance of winning. I just feel Chavez had a better chin and more heart. Better stamina too.
Pretty much I really don't care. Chavez is under-rated. I have only seen certain Duran fights from his earlier days. Maybe I am not a huge expert like you but Chavez had the most heart and was the toughest fighter I have ever seen. So go ahead anf talk your ****, It means nothing bro.
Both would go toe-to-toe?. Duran at his best as a lightweight probably wouldn't fight that way with Chavez. He'd probably for long periods of the fight, but he would make life much easier for himself using his full arsenal. And that means keeping the fight at long range, using his jab, and waiting for the right moments to strike. I do agree that Chavez would build momentum during periods of the fight and give Duran no alternative but to brawl with him. But Duran standing inside with Chavez and fighting with no brains? Aint going to happen, not from bell to bell anyway.
