Never heard Chavez say: 'If I would have been in better shape, he would have gone to the morgue" as Duran once did after the Ray Lampkin fight.

    Maybe Chavez has more class.

The fight is a toss-up for me.....in Mexico City I take Chavez.....all other locations I go with Duran.

More heart?. Apart from Duran's surrender against Leonard, which wasn't due to pain and punishment, rather frustration, Chavez actually showed less heart throughout his career than Duran.

He looked for a way out against Randall in the rematch, which he got, and he was shaking his head as he sat on his stool at the end of the 8th round of the De La Hoya rematch.

All in all both had great chins and showed tremendous heart, but I had to even things out as you said "Chavez had more heart".

Better stamina. Can you tell me when Duran showed any stamina issues at lightweight?. If you can give me an example, please let me know. Infact, Duran's was running on 4 star gas throughout his career.

Maybe when Duran was in his 40's you'd be able to pluck up a suitable and viable example.

duran lost at lw to arguably the most underrated lw of the past 30 years. a man who i firmly believe that had duran not existed, he would be the one that ruled the division.

duran quitting against leonard at 147, and being ko'd by hearns at 154 has absolutely no bearing on who and what he was at 135. at that weight duran does not get ground down by anyone. he does the grinding, as evidenced in all of his title fight at that weight, where only 1 man saw the scorecards.

Duran was faster, had more power, was more fluid, and had better technical skills. The only category in which i would give Chavez an advantage, albeit not by much, is his chin, and even that can be argued. If I recall correctly, JCC cuts a lot easier than Duran, but dont quote me on that. I see this being an all out war that is close but that Duran wins decisively.

That u-tube clip attached to this thread is a good indicator of why I think Chavez would win. Although Duran won in spectacular fashion, that was competitive footage and Dejesus landed some very nice shots and I have no doubt Chavez would do the same. Unless the clip was running less than normal speed, Duran & Dejesus don't seem to be very fast in this fight, I could easily see all the punches even with the terrible resolution of the cllip.

Duran by TKO by the 10

Great defense above average punching power at 135
Best ring skills of any fighter Iv ever seen which enable him to compete at 135 to 168 and have KO along the way and was able to stand and deliver with great marvin Hagler and make him Marvin respect him.

The young Duran would have been too much for Chavez at 135.

Roberto Duran had great defensive skills. Because he comes to mind first and foremost as an aggressive brawler, its only natural for his defense to be overlooked. Even Leonard said he found Duran difficult to hit cleanly when they fought the first time.

Duran has never gotten KO like Duran did, not even when he was fighting at a dinosaurs age.
Chavez had the best P4P chin
    Duran had a good Chin
Both great sluggers but chavez had a tad bit better body attack.

    Chavez by possible KO.

You mean Chavez has never gotten ko'd like Duran? If Chavez would've fought Tommy Hearns I can't see it ended much differently.

    Based on what?:huh

Chavez took the P4P best punchers shots of his era around his division and didn't even FLINCH.

Chavez struggled with fighters after he moved up from 140lbs. And he never fought any opponent with the power to come near Hearns'.
