Jeff Lacy was never as good as his hype lead him to be. He didn't beat any real top tier guys. Cal before he faced Lacy already fought, at least Eubanks. Even that version of Eubanks was better than anything Lacy had known. Lacy struggled against fighters who the top guys dominate.

Lacy was an unknown, at least Cal showed some good abilities prior. Not saying Lacy was terrible as a fighter, no -- but he was just not very good.

I agree, but in terms of actual skill Lacy is also not a top 10 Calzaghe opponent. There are easily 10 who are better than Jeff - although many did not have the image of Jeff. In real terms they beat top 10 people, which Jeff never has (the closest are Manfredo and Tsypko, but Manfredo was never a real top 10 either - and Tsypko borderline at very very best).

It's funny how often the topics of skin color and xenophobia arise when it comes to criticism of Calzaghe, and the Klitschkos.

It usually seems to be those 2 more than other fighters. Fighters like Tszyu and Hatton, guys with white skin for the UK and the Soviet Union (and later fighting out of Australia), rarely did their fans resort to skin color and their national origin when it came to them being criticized. Mayweather is perhaps the most hated fighter in the sport but rarely do people bring up him being black. Sometimes, but it's rare. De La Hoya was criticized throughout his career and hated by more than a few fans but the only time his Mexican background was brought up when it came to him being disliked was him being disliked by boxing fans also of Mexican descent (Mexican nationals, not Mexican-Americans). Pacquiao gets a ton of criticism along with the love. His fans don't say "oh people just don't like him because he's a rice picker". Look at Roy Jones and the criticism he received over the years. There was even a "Roycott". When do his fans bring up him being black for his hatred? No, it's usually because people, like Calzaghe, either wanted more from him due to his talent, or just didn't care for his arrogance/showboating. Or both.

But of course, this can't be the case for Calzaghe and the Klitschkos. It just HAS to be hatred for their white skin and not being American.
