Chuvalo might have done verry well under a 1900 20 or 25 round ruleset, but I would resist comparing him to any fighter from that era stylisticaly. As for Jeffries, I can't really think of any fighter who came after him who had a similar style.
It's tough to get a clear picture of Jeffries's style without extensive film on him. From what I've seen he was more defensive-minded than one would expect from his reputation (probably due to fights being scheduled for 20+ rounds), used the counter uppercut to good effect, used upperbody movement to avoid punches, although it's unclear whether he utilized this technique to his best advantage in real fights, and would rough-house opponents to wear them down like he did against Ruhlin. Chuvalo was a straight-up, forward plodding body puncher with a high held guard. However in toughness, stamina and size he is comparable to Jeffries.
What is aparent is that Jeffries only pressed his oponents if they ran from him, or if they were incapable of posing a serious threat. Otherwise he let them come to him. In that sense he was more like a defensive counterpuncher than a pressure fighter.
