I've never seen a champion so lauded in press, until Tyson.

Gilbert Odd , and Nat Fleischer say he was. Floored by a left to the body in the 3rd rd.Thats pretty precise dont you think? I give it no importance myself, it was an exhibition.

CBZ says he slipped . Unless you have seen the fight your opinion is of no more importance than anyone else's. I know that is a novel arrangement for you.

    Ferguson was not average.

If he had got his act together, he might even have exploited the chaos after Jeffries retired to get the title.

Like I already said, it's in Adam Pollack's bio of Jeffries, he has a whole chapter dedicated to this issue.

That is because the information I provided on both fights is correct and doesn't suit your agenda. :hi:

So in addition to the alleged fix for Ketchel, and the lie of a fix in the Willard fight, we can now add the one of the Ferguson fights into the mix. Johsnon said he was in three fights not on the level? One must ponder if there were more.

The ref walked out of the ring on the fiasco! Never read anything like that...ever.:lol:

Unless I am misreading the article, Jeffries said he would fight Johnson. The date here is 1904. Of course since Hart beat Johnson in 1905, he should be viewed as the #1 guy for sure before Jeffries retired as champion.

Prior to the Johnson v Hart contest, Jeffries went into print in the national dailies stating equivocably that should Johnson win, he would NOT fight him.

Jeffries retired as champion of the white boxers.

Either way, it's of no importance is it? It was an exhibition, and Jeffries was out of shape.

The Willard fight was on the level, Johnson was in front after 20 rds then he tired and Willard legitimately kod him. Johnson made a gracious statement the same day admitting such ,he reiterated it the next morinig in the presence of Barney Curley the promoter , but later retracted it when he was short of money .The Ketchel fight was fixed in so far as Johnson carried Ketchel to make a show of it for the film royalties. Johnson toyed with Ferguson , who had a win over Jeannette.

Now if you can find a fight in which it was fixed for Johnson to win that might be worth discussing instead of the puerile tosh you keep spouting ,you sad bigot.

I am traveling today so I'll make this short and sweet. Reread what I wrote in this thread.

I said Johnson claimed a fix. You agree me me! He's lying just like you do from time to time.

I said alleged fix for ketchel. Some view it that way.

I said not on the level for Ferguson. That appears to be correct!

You have nothing to stand on old man. You baseless claim Of bigotry and racism are a worn out recording. Infact you quote racism far more than I do and for some reason happen to be the loudest critic of several white champions. And you defend a wife beating champion who ducked his best competition as champion who happened to be black.

Hmmmm I wonder why. It's obvious who the racist is. Check my rankings. Either p4p or all time and you will see many black fighters listed 1. Or check any debate thread. I will pick who I think wins. Race does not factor in.

Anyone who has read In the Ring With James J. Jeffries knows the truth about the Munroe exhibition, because I extensively quoted several local sources.

    Forget he Munro exhibition.

The point of this thread is to discuss possible opponents if Jeffries had fought on after defeating Munro.

We would have to assume that Jeffries would maintain his position on the colour line. This leaves us with.
    Hart
    Ferguson
    O Brien
Financially pretty slim pickings for Jeffries.
