Jeffries talked seriously about a rematch with Johnson?

Really? Jeffreis did not claim a fix or dive as Johnson did! He did not quit either as Johnson had! Nor did he foul once in the match to earn a DQ.

Johnson himself said Jeffries treated him fine.

Jeffries simply said he was tool old to come back, and said he would have won if he was younger.

I tend to believe moving the fight to Reno hurt Jeffries chances. It would have been much cooler temperature wise in San Fransisco. Older fighters do not do well in the desert heat, espeically if they are not used to going many rounds.

    Oh ****. Here we go.

Anyway, It seems to have been put to bed by January of 1911. Weirdly, Johnson called out Jeffries in January of 1912:

"Jeff simply dogged it in our fight. He was not out when the battle ended but quite like a yellow cur...I can make Jeff quit again in 10 rounds and am willing to bet $10,000 that I can."

The article also notes that Johnson has been quiet and dignified about the fight up until then and seems a bit wierded out genereally. The headline is "Says Jeff Quit Like Cur". Jack must have been short of cash.

Jeff's dish was sour grapes. He wasn't gracious or big enough a man to just say he was whipped by a better boxer. He delighted in cruel pranks according to his own biography and there's even film of him beaming Bob Armstrong in the back of the head with a medicine ball. But Jeff got the medicine that was coming to him for a loooong time running, yeah. You can't elect to be small and petty and win in the end, it will always come apart!

I've never read this about Johnson , its spiteful stuff and ,untrue, if he indeed said it.
Jeffries fought a brave, stoic fight and, took heaps of punishment from a man he detested, that cannot have been easy.
When Jeffries agreed to the fight, Johnson sent him a congratulatory cable.
Jeffries did not reply.Jeffries told Rickard that he would not shake Johnson's hand before the fight ,neither did he do so afterwards, but by then he may have been a bit dazed.
Johnson went to Jeffries corner after the stoppage , to commiserate with him , but Jeff's seconds would not let him get close.

Three days after the fight ,Johnson gave a speech outside the Little Savoy theatre ,in the speech, he called Jeffries "the gamest man I ever fought"
I've allways read complimentary things from Johnson, concerning Jeffries ,but never anything complimentary in return ,be that as it may.

Jeffries went as far as he could without seeking to quit, that much is obvious.

Equally obvious imo, is the fact that Johnson could have opened up earlier, and probably got Jeffries out of there quicker, but it was his moment in the sun and he got every second out of it he could.
" I was enjoying myself, I could have fought for two hours longer".
Later, up in his suite ,Johnson gave an interview to a young Nat Fleischer, then a reporter on the New York Sun .
Commenting on the race riots Johnson said.
"Nat why should they bring in the black race against the white race?

I licked Tommy Burns fairly. I did the same in my fight with Jeffries.
My battle with Jeffries was not a contest between a black man ,and a white man. But between two boxers.
I beat him,and now the matter is settled
.Let's avoid any talk that is likely to antagonize my people ,or yours".

You already have when you typed. " No sorer loser than Jeffries has left the ring. " No worries Mcvey, I started a new thread to give you a reason to live.

Jeffries and those claiming to support him were obviously seriously delusional.
