I feel like this is a little harsh. I agree that the Charlos both got the star treatment their whole career (good matchmaking, lots of exposure, salivating commentary) - but they ARE naturally gifted in many ways, but yeah Jermall seems second tier compared to the top guys at middleweight. That favourable matchmaking always comes back to bite people in the ass if they stick on that road too long. I knew Korobov was a potential banana skin - he seldom loses rounds and is incredibly well schooled (I’m one of the few that has seen all his post-Lee fights ;-) ). I had him winning by 2-3 rounds. jermall was competitive with him, but fundamentally beaten I think. I hate this scoring fights on activity crap. If one guy is more economical but lands more significant shots when he does throw, whilst making the other guy miss then he wins the damn round. Period. **** activity. Activity should only be scored when there are no other factors to consider. I think Charlo is just fine. But Korobov is just better. Charlo boxed as well as he ever does, but Korobov was the superior boxer - and with a real camp would’ve been even better. I would rather give major props to Korobov for stepping up and doing what he did on short notice than denigrate Charlo too much - but yeah, there was only one winner in my mind.
Korobov has been highly inactive took the fight on short notice and beat Charlo Charlo loses to all the top 160s
Very good amateur. Korobov did have a camp though, he was in camp for another fight, so he wasn't coming in cold. I agree, Charlo needs to give the man a rematch.
I don’t think he got exposed. We already knew he had limits against good boxers and Korobov is good; Korobov was training for a fight and has generally stayed in the gym from what I know despite being inactive. I give him credit for willing his way to victory a disciplined way instead of searching for haymakers after realizing he was in deep. I don’t see anyone else willing to fight Korobov.
Only MWs that are proven is Canelo and GGG.. People was saying Danny Jacobs was exposed when he got dropped by a 154 Mora and saved with a fluke stoppage win not to mention he didn’t look great against career 154 fighters in Arias and Sulecki.. People were saying BJS was exposed when he gifted a decision vs Akavov and didn’t look good vs Willie Monroe.. People seemed to forget about that after he fought a limited skilled Lemeiux.. People were saying Andrade was horrible in his performance against unranked Alantez Fox and couldn’t finish Walter K.. All these guys have obvious flaws vs certain styles and Charlos flaw is awkward southpaws..
Korobov is 35 and hasn’t been active or fought any top comp in long time. Charlo struggled badly. Call it whatever you want but he struggled fight could of went either way. Kudos to Korobov I say let’s have rematch.
