Yeah, I get that. SDWI would cause fighters to fight closer to their natural weight for sure. But there are stories of fighters suffering from dehydration, kidney failure ect. from the era of SDWI's. Well I guess when it's all said and done, the fighter does it to himself.
You don't think there should be a cruiserweight division? If you're naturally 6'0 and 210lbs you'd either have to kill yourself to make 175lbs, or much more realistically, juice / get fat and fight against people 5 inches taller and 30lbs heavier than you.
Jermell was clearly the smaller guy saturday night. Not only did Canelo had wider shoulders, bigger legs, he was also in better shape. The fight further confirmed why it’s weight classes and not height classes.
We lack quality heavyweights and its the most famous division. Increasing the talentpool there even with slightly smaller guys who have other advantages would add something.
Never heard that logic before, interesting point. Usyk is a good example obviously, but I think Briedis and a (non-super injured) Gassiev would have been good contenders in the division too. That and most people consider the original cruiserweight GOAT in Holyfield an ATG heavyweight too. David Haye was also ok.
