Not doubting that Quarry hit hard, but he certainly wouldn't be the hardest puncher that Moorer ever fought..... And punching power wouldn't be the factor that decides the winner in this fight for me anyway..... Both men hit hard and both had middle of the road chins....... My big issue is how one would handle the style of the other, and frankly it seems like Quarry would have to unscramble more eggs than Moorer would....
The right hand Jerry threw and his hook to the body....Moorer may confuse him for a bit but Jerry loved guys like this....he would not be in awe of Moorer, Frazier and Ali were a level above, Moorer had cracks in his armour and I dont think they were Quarry proff.
Yeah he fought Jack Bodell and KO'd him in the first. Not saying he'd do the same to MM but I heavily favour Quarry in this one probably by stoppage as well.
I love Mike but i have to weigh it up correctly and see a very fired up Quarry stopping Michael after overwealming him in around 3 rounds.. Jerry could be a monster at times, his fight with Shavers sums him up... he had power and it spells danger with Moorers chin sometimes... Everett Martin dropped him heavily so Jerry could too.
Quarry was much more consistent and better overall ... I like him to stop Mike late in a competitive fight.
This fight is really too tough to call. I keep picturing a number of scenerios. I do think if Quarry fought during the 90s, Moorer would have been a very ideal opponent for him to try to capture the title.
Quarry would send Mike to the deck in the 4th and finish off his dazed and wobbly opponent moments later. Moorer's chin was never that well protected, and it was made of glass. Quarry would take advantage of that.
