Quarry is 2" taller with a 2" longer reach. Tua is 25-30 Lbs. heavier, when Tua is in good shape. Even when over 245 Lbs. Tua was still very good (about 50 Lbs. more than Quarry). Tua is much stronger, punches much harder, and has a better chin. Quarry was better at getting his face busted up. Both men could be very active. Tua had decent hand speed for a man of his size, Quarry had decent hand speed as well.
Quarry beat Lineal HW Champ Patterson by close decision, they also fought to a draw. He lost a close decision to WBA HW Champ Ellis. He was stopped by Lineal HW Champs Frazier x2 and Ali x2. He was stopped by WBC HW Champ Norton. He was also stopped by Chuvalo. He beat Ron Lyle by decision early in Lyle's career. He stopped Shavers in the 1st round. He also beat Spencer, Mathis, and Foster among others.
I'm going to side with Quarry in this one. I think quite a few fighters from the 60's and 70's could beat Tua.
Quarry was an excellent fighter. Quick, tough, skilled. Unless he is caught or cut he outboxes Tua at distance over 10-12 rounds to take a U decision
I think Quarry by a close decision. But the Tua-Man is a fighter who always has the "puncher`s Chance".
Quarry has skills, footwork, boxing, and counter punching. Tua has a hook. I'm picking Quarry by decision.
Tua could take it. That's not the point. Quarry had the SKILL to outbox Tua over distance. Quarry wins most every round.
I love Jerry Quarry, but I'm afraid he would be too small for Tua. Jerry isn't going to stop Tua, he can only outbox him, and I believe sooner or later Tua catches him. Tua had frightening power, John Ruiz was 6'2, 219 lbs, and Tua made him look like a man being put through a blender. Also Jerry was a great counter puncher but he liked to brawl as well, and I think that would be his big downfall against a one punch ko artist like David Tua.
If Quarry fights a smart fight like he did against Lyle, he wins a decision. If he fights stupid, which is quite possible, he gets TkO'd. Jerry by decision, maybe even late round TKO
