I agree with this. But, if there is a stoppage, it will be Jerry stopping Leon. Either way, Quarry has to be favored.
What? Win a title against a shot Ali who played us all for 'useful idiots' in his second reign, never gave rematches, and decides to fight a 7-0-1 nobody HW who he probably let win the first fight knowing that this kid would take the bucks and fight Ali again letting Ali become the first "3-time champion"?? Question: Was Ali's effort against 'green' Leon in their second fight more impressive than Patterson's effort against Jimmy Ellis (much better than Spinks) in Floyd's bid to become a 3-time Champion in Stockholm in Sept. 68? Back to thread. I love Quarry and I love Ali (the Greatest!) but IMO Jerry's power was a little overrated. I can see Quarry stopping Spinks but Leon wasn't total chopped liver. I'd say a fairly one-sided decision for Quarry but I'll respect other's opinions.
Still if you think about it quarry was always the better fighter, had a better career and frankly had the better wins. It was just good timing for Spinks, nothing more.
Leon is walking in and staying at the rage Quarry wants him. And I sure do like the lefthook of Jerry's better than any single shots Leon ever threw. Agree with general consensus and Spinks gets tagged by a lefthook he never see's coming and it's all going to be the Coetzee result > that punch. Leon won't go out easy, but he'll go out.
Quarry was used to fighting men much bigger like Lyle, Mac Foster, Buster Mathis, Ali, etc. so this would be walk in the park for him similar to Jack Bodell. Leon who was game and tough walked right in and was perfect for a counter puncher like Jerry. Unless Leon opened a cut, I don't see a way he can win. But, it would be exciting while it lasted.
