andrew golota was actually a pretty skilled fighter who could have claimed 2 victories over riddick bowe if not for his stupid penchant for fouling. jess willard was just a primative brawler who would never have won the title in another era. If johnson hadn't thrown their fight he wouldn't have been champion then. Golota both outboxes and outslugs willard before hitting him in the nuts and getting disqualified.
What was Golota's BEST win...not his best loss....His best win ? I was trying to figure it out but he is known for his losses even to Bowe, which were his best 2 losses
I view this fight going very much the same as the Golota/McBride fight, only with Willard putting up a MUCH better performance than McBride did, as he is the better fighter imo.
Willard to me imo. People forget that Willard fought the way he did, because well most of thsos fights were fights to the finishs. Better be flat footed, and same your strength for the later rounds, like Jess did vs Johnson. Unless Golota walks in and blasts Jess like Dempsey did, I dont see Golota winning.
If it wasnt for the Bowe fights, i would say Willard dominates this easily, but Willard is really similar to the Bowe who turned up for this fight, and Willard never really totally dominated decent fighters. I get the feeling that despite Willard having a much better legacy and presumably all time rank, Golota would not freeze and would make a serious go of this fight, like he did in the Bowe fight. As a difficult as it is to try to predict a DQ loss for Golota it is tempting to do so here because of the Bowe fights. Still, i get the feeling that Willard may not be capable of turning the fight around within a 12 or even 15 round limit and i think he is upset on points. In a fight to the finish, or a 60 rounder, Golota eventually gives in and is either Dqd or knocked out sometime after the 15th.
