I agree with all you guys. I think jermain is in a good situation regarding the current middleweight landscape, with guys who aren't totally unbeatable who also are serious challenges that would add to his legacy. in my opinion, if he beats a few top middleweights he's a lock for comeback fighter of the year honors. I hope his comeback proves fruitful, but even if it doesn't, it was a good run while it lasted and he was exciting throughout.
Probably not. Doesn't make it a good stoppage though. I'm not saying let the guy take a savage beating. He was being dominated, and had NO better than a puncher's chance. But he deserved that chance, he wasn't hurt all that much. Dude busted his ass training for this, what could be for him, the fight of his lifetime. Why pull the plug prematurely?
I honestly dont think he had a puncher's chance. taylor's been knocked out late, while gassed in all his knockout losses, albeit RELATIVELY late against kelly pavlik, who was a monster puncher at middleweight. taylor didnt give the slightest indication that he was on his way to gassing out, and nicklow was several shades below him. Nicklow had no puncher's chance, in fact, he had no chance whatsoever.
Fair enough. Still doesn't make the stoppage a good one in light of the fact that he wasn't particularly hurt. Not the worst stoppage I've seen(by a wide margin), but even if the guy had practically no chance of beating this Taylor, let the guy take whatever he could from the fight until it seemed as if he could be in danger. I say all this, and I'm one who always says it's better to stop a fight a punch too early than a punch too late.
I see it like this, he never had a chance from the beginning but it took a round for the fight to make that evident. the referee jumped in at the first sign of nicklow being hurt, after that big right hand to the temple/forehead area. I know he worked his butt off, and you are overall in agreement with stopping a fight sooner rather than later if a fighter's being thoroughly beaten. I think that was more or less the situation with taylor-nicklow. it was clear that nicklow was going to take a beating for the next 3 rounds.
He would have been beaten, for sure. A beating?.... possibly. I'm in favor of stopping it if a guy is taking a beating..... but not just because he is being thoroughly outpointed. I wouldn't question at all had he been hurt and saved from immediate punishment. JT wasn't exactly pouring it on either.......wisely too. I know that JT was winning that fight easy, and I agree that the ref was waiting for the first opportunity to stop it, but I just didn't think he quite had cause to stop it when he did.
sure umm, Kirkland With Skeletal Jaw man...bro...man. because taylor only gets Koed with a full tank, and pavlik couldnt punch, and you know, abraham cant punch for ****, and carl froch hits like a girl, and having a weak jaw should automatically disqualify you from prizefighting...oh yeah, and a top fighter being vulnerable doesnt add to the allure of a good matchup at all. if you really believe some of the stuff you say then you are a real clown, because you're so steadfast that it HAS to translate to real life, and if you're joking, then you have to be pretty lame to be keeping it up for so long.
