His chin got tested against Johnson, when he went down in the 15th after continuous damage. But I forgot, that film is a cartoon, and his head snapping back from Johnsons sharp solid uppercuts are about as inconsequential as when Elmer Fudd shoots Daffy Ducks beak off.
Johnson could have finished that affair a lot earlier.Fitzsimmons ,rooting for Jeffries said Johnson could have ended it when he liked. Corbett wasn't any sort of a puncher. An ATG? What is his best win to entitle him to be called such? A stoppage of a near 34 years old alcoholic Sullivan who hadn't fought in over 4 and a half years!
Well, judging by the article on the front page of this thread, it seems that so long as this Jeffries fight was scheduled for november of this year it seems that anyone backing Ortiz loses as Ortiz would fail the drug test.
Corbett revolutionized boxing. Corbett landed a lot of punches on Jeffries over 23 rds. If Jeffries had chin issues I am more than confident they would have been found out. Jeffries had a fantastic chin. I don't think that can be logically denied.
Should we start a thread where muscle bound amateur boxer Jennings or scared dive-taker Malik Scott or fat out of shape David Allen or social security beneficiary Tony Thompson matches Corbett? Do we really want to see where that goes? Or will their lame defense be "they hung pretty well with Ortiz and HE'S a super heavyweight who fought in modern times!"
It is key to remember they did not have drug testing in Jeff's day but if they had .....cocaine which was touted for it's miraculous invigorating effects in curing fatigue....oxygen between rounds....marijuana was common......
As great as Fitz was a 167lb man iant the same as a 240 lb man testing it....when I was still fighting as a middle/ ltheavy sparring with hard hitting smaller men was not close to hard hitting equal sized guys I never considered getting cracked by a legit ko punching lightweight a test of my chin and neither should Jeff
