Jim got too emotional about the guy he rooted for, which is unprofessional when the viewer wants an unbiased commentary. When he said “TERRIFIC” after each groves punch it reminded me of Harry Carpenter’s “GO ON FRANK” when Bruno took on Tyson, difference is Harry reeled it in once he realised what he had done, whereas Jim unashamedly continues to be biased. I thought George was his son at one point. Sometimes I don’t mind him but that type of Bias is hard to stomach. He can be very single minded.

I read the OP and didn't aim anything at you. From what i can see people are upset at Jim because he didn't praise Carl's work enough. That's what im reading.

If punters don't like listening to Jim Watt why do they keep buying or watching shows he is commentating on??? Turn the sound down and put the radio on. But then you would have nothing to moan about.

hi, like i said the second part was nt aimed at you mate, i did respond to the point you made about hangin off frochs balls as i thought it was aimed at me, my op was about the quality of watts commentary and that most of the group i was with had commented that he seemed to be calling the fight badly, it was nt about froch or groves performance , i have put my thoughts on the fight if u fancy reading it

i thought groves for the most part was excellent he showed fantastic ring craft hand speed and accuracy he did nt let the occasion get to him and will be defiantly be a real world champion however he did allow himself to fight frochs fight from the mid way point and i have to say i feel the fight may have gone differently if he had someone like booth in his corner to encourage him to protect the obvious points lead he had and box more conservatively and not get involved in a war , froch was clearly second best for most of the night but showed real toughness to claw himself back into having a chance his abilty to recover from shots amazes me and he did well to close groves down and apply pressure, i don't want to see a rematch as froch is shipping to much punishment as he has done most of his career and at his age, financial postion and also being a father he should imo walk away satisfied he has had a great career and enjoy the fruits of his labour as to fight groves again will almost certainly result in a defeat and a pretty one sided one at that if Saturdays fight is anything to go by.

All i know is there aint many smw in the world who could of taken that right hand in round one and then the other shots in the next few rounds and come back to put Groves in trouble.

No worries mate, The bit i highlighted seems to be the reason why people are hating on Jim but how can he praise Carl other than say '' what a chin '' for the first 6 rounds because it was nothing other than a beat down.

Some people also think he got too emotional but for me i enjoyed hearing that emotion but then i also enjoy watching the old boys on Soccer Saturday go bannanas over a goal lol.

Everyone was stunned by the way George took the fight to Carl and i'm sure the old boys were stunned too. Maybe he should be a bit more professional but i quite enjoyed it. Also i don't watch every show so if he has made a complete tit of himself in the past I've missed it.

Thought he had it spot on. Only thing I don't like about his commentary is his tendencyt o repeat the same point over and over, it's as if he feels the need to talk constantly, maybe he just gets carried away- which isn't really a bad thing as at least he loves what he's commentating on.

Just listened to the five live commentary (youtube) and the commentator on there was biased the other way.

Everytime Groves threw a punch, he stated it, but then stated that Froch comes back with a better/harder punch.

It felt like I was listening to a different fight to the one I warched Saturday evening.

Disagreed with your original post but agree with this post. This place is just symptomatic of the declining standards amongst boxing fans, it usually/always people with absolutely no appreciation of the sacrifices, balls and effort boxers put on the line when they fight. Treat individuals boxers like sports teams.

good point there, some of the most recent threads have amazed me i remember reading one about Hughie fury tons of people were slagging him off and the quality of his opponents saying he was **** and a lot worse, i mean come on this is an 19 year old fighter he is fighting every week and is surely someone to get excited about i mean if u were told we could have a kid who at amateur set the world alight winning championships that no other british heavy had ever done and then turn pro and fight every month and fight abroad you would imagine as boxing fans on a boxing site people who would be excited yet wen i read some of the threads people seemed to be fixated with calling him a pikey and mentioning caravan or tarmacking!!

Yes he was spot on. He talked about how Froch wasn't landing with anything (though Groves' face begs to differ). He dismissed Froch's jab, even though it was the only thing that kept him in the fight through rounds 2 and 3. Like TS says, he only praised Groves' work. No wonder everyone was so surprised when it ended. They must have thought Froch had won without landing a punch.
