I watched it in a bar so couldnt hear the commentary. His score card was a joke though. I've never been a big fan of Watt's commentary though generally. I dont think he adds that much really and his voice grates on me a bit. He's not as bad as Thaxton was in the Super Six but there are much better out there.
It's nonsensical the criticism he is getting. Immediately when the result was announced he said "this is great for Haye and for British boxing". He was just cautious when commentating, as Haye barely threw a punch and was fighting in Valuev's backyard.
I thought he was WAY OFF with the scoring, but during the fight didn't Darke say all 3 back in the studio (McCrory, Piper, McCrory) had Valuev IN FRONT, and that was after, what, 8 or 9 rounds ??? Can anyone confirm that, or did I mishear what they were saying ?
I can forgive the dreadful scoring, because every one sees things differently and that's part of the subjective nature of boxing. What I can't forgive is Watt giving Haye no credit for confounding his expectations and for simply winning. He could have just said: "While I don't agree with the scoring, I have to commend Haye for a sensible performance and for winning away from home." But he had to complain that Haye didn't deserve it. Very poor.
His commentary in Mayweather v Marquez that did my head as opposed to Saturday. I like PBF, but Watt was slevering on as if he's the second coming of SRR.
