No, if you watch that fight Jesse gave Tyson a real fight. Tyson hit him after the bell at the end of round 4. Jesse started fast at the start of round 5 and Tyson went kind of quiet until he decked Jesse late in the round. Ferguson could have stayed down but he got up and took a real beating until the bell without holding. He also could have pulled himself out at the end of the round but did not. Sure he held during most of round 6 but it was not that excessive. Bonecrusher and Bruno held Tyson way more. Ferguson was not a disgrace. Jacobs and the referee were the disgraceful ones not Ferguson.

    Right!!
That was a very cringeworthy and creepy little tirade from Jimmy J
Ferguson then gave an on air rebuttal and was pretty gentlemanly about it.

I think Tommy Gallagher is right about Jacobs. There was something strange about Jacobs and his obsessions.

Steve Lott is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in this sport, not sure what that comment is all about.

As for Ferguson, who cares. That fight was not competetive and Ferguson was trying not to get knocked out. Excessive holding is a foul which I cannot stand so I have little sympathy when a guy gets DQd for it. It could have prevented us from watching the nightmare that was Clutchy Ruiz' "championship" run.

As for the list of ESPN fights youd have to ask them for it. They dont give it out. I have their list of fights they claim to own copyrights of (which has a lot of fights that they dont own copyrights on) but as for their full collection I dont know that anyone has it other than BigFights and ESPN. A lot of people have this weird idea that the collection includes all kinds of rare stuff like Jeffries, Langford, Johnson, and so on. It has some stuff that most people havent seen (not a lot by any stretch) but the vast majority of the collection is common now. The real value of the collections, as I see it, is in the quality of the films. They are much better quality (obviously being originals) than what is commonly seen even on television.

Not competative? Ferguson did fight. It was the closest thing to a competitive fight Tyson had up until that time. Excessive holding is a foul but so is Tyson hitting after the bell and head butting. It was one round where Jesse held excessively. no points were taken off in warning, the referee made a mess of that fight. He should have stopped it at the end of round 5 if he was so under pressure from commissioner Torres and money man Jacob to preserve TYsons KO streak. When else has a manager had the influence to change a result?

I am just speaking up for the underdog here, Jesse was going to lose that fight anyway but he was not just fighting Tyson that night. He had the referee, the commission and the fans against him. If the referee took two points off then threw him out ....and the DQ stood ... I would have no complaints.

Ferguson fought nearly the entire fight on the ropes getting bashed by Tyson. Tell me what rounds you thought he won in this competetive fight. Ferguson also threw late blows after the bell. To pretend this was anything more than a beating simply because Tyson took longer to knock Ferguson out is on par with deluded people who say that Tillis beat Tyson simply because Tillis ran and held for 10 rounds.

Jim Jacobs was certainly obssessed with building and protecting the "invincible" irresistable KO artist image for Tyson.
    Took it to silly extremes.
Very vindictive towards fighters who made Tyson look less than a super-hero ... and towards press men who dared to question Tyson's invincibility or criticize a performance.

Have you guys ever noticed? All documentaries portray Jimmy Jacobs as some sort of father figure for Tyson, yet Tyson (to my knowledge) hardly ever mentions him? He cries about Cus all the time, but not once has he ever mentioned Jacobs.

The other thing is, Tyson/Spinks only happened because Jacobs died. Had he lived we may not have seen it.

Jacobs intention was to make Spinks sweat it out and have the fight around 89, but because of his ill health they rushed the fight and got it signed asap.

The reason everyone was against Ferguson was, he seriously did stink out the joint.

Jacobs bitching about the decision was wrong, but fergie seriously stunk out the joint.

Tyson didn't even know Jacobs was ill. I think Jacobs kept it a secret from just about everyone. I think Jacobs was a very secretive man, as was Bill Cayton.
I think Tyson felt let down when Jacobs died, and possibly Jacobs was just a fake friend, or a fake "father figure", playing the "Cus replacement" role. At least Bill Cayton never pretended.

I think those guys were a good management team though.
Cayton, Jacobs, Rooney, Lott .... sure, Tyson was just a commodity in one sense, but they wanted him to do well and have a great career.
Can't really blame them that this amazing young fighter, only 21 years old, was still an emotional baby.

The downfall of Tyson was really a "perfect storm" ..... Jacobs' sudden death was part of it.
Some people like to blame Robin Givens and her mother ... others say it was Don King .... others go back to D'Amato ... or blame Tyson's choices ...... but really it was everything.

I always found his kiss-on-the-lips with Tyson a bit weird.
    After the Berbick fight.

I agree 100% on all of these except maybe the fake friend thing. I think Jacobs cared about Tyson. Not sure about Cayton. The kiss on the lips thing seems kind of weird but it also seems like a spontaneous thing. Jacobs seemed surprised by it. I always took at as they were going to kiss each others cheek kind of thing and both accidently went the same way and ewwww.... All you can do is awkwardly laugh it off at that point and then go rinse and repeat... unless they enjoyed it... not that theres anything wrong with that. oh boy.
