Jimmy, arguably beat Norton. If he would have won he ultimately would have picked up the belt that got handed to Norton. I think Holmes would have had an easier time with Young than Norton though. In his prime he feasted on the best punchers on his generation. Foreman, Lyle, Shavers are just a few of the well known scalps he picked up. Never the same after the Norton loss. After the back to back Ocasio disasters, it was a long road downhill. Wanted to add a few kind words for your thread, for a fighter who was almost the heavyweight champ.

thanks for the vid. Tommy!!! Young was AWSOME! I mean ****, anyone who is bigger, stronger, faster, has connections, and oh, charisma, (what the **** does that have to do with boxing?) can win the title. This guy accomplished so much with less physical attributes. He had some great qualities, and the smarts to use them to the fullest potential in his prime.

Nice video. Young had great skills. He was an integral part of a nice era in heavyweight boxing. Good enough to have at least held a portion of the title. Very debatable loss to Norton. Stood up to Foreman and Shavers. Outboxed Foreman. Made Ali look fat and old. Don't worry about these guys ragging on him. Self professed experts dumbing down their ****ysis to "he's boring" or "he's terrible". Guys like Pernel Whitaker, Jimmy Young who used their brains to outbox much more powerfull guys - thinking men's fighters - are to be admired.

To be fair Ali was old and fat. He was 34, 14 pounds heavier than when he won the title, and a couple of years away from losing to Leon Spinks.

I've watched this vid a couple of times now...great selections of footage Tommygun,...I especially love the segments vs Foreman, when he tries to bombard Jimmy in the 7th round...my man shows what he's all about then...putting on that masterclass display of ellusive boxing...then turning it on and tagging Big George near the end of the round. Jimmy had some power when he elected to use it...look at how he put some respect in Ken Norton.
Excellent tribue vid, but guys,...lol,...what did you expect an unabashed Jimmy Young fan to say, for that matter?
The only thing I'm not used to is seeing Jimmy as the bigger man in some of that footage.

It IS a bit insulting, however, to suggest that someone is clueless about boxing because they just happen to not like Jimmy Young as a fighter or dislike his style. That's a question of taste, nothing more.

I bothered with the thread because I wanted to watch the video.
    I watched the video.
I was the first one to watch the video and comment on it. And I watched with an open mind, actually.

I gave it 4 minutes of my time, because I respect the fact that Jimmy Young was an accomplished fighter and does in fact have some admirers, whether it's two or three or more it seems, I respect the fact.
I watched the highlight video in the hope that I'd appreciate some fine boxing, and acquire a better appreciate of Jimmy Young, who I admitted was one of my least favourites. I tried.

After I'd watched, I gave my honest opinion.

My subsequent posts were just jokes and banter, with fellow members of the forum. That's how this place works. Sometimes we exchange jokes and banter for a few posts.
