My point is that Barrera and Morales fought and beat better opposition throughout their careers...and that's directly related to the thread question.

This is one of the worst posts of all time. Barrera's claim to fame was beating Erik Morales? So it had nothing to do with going 43-0, beating former world champions Kennedy Mckinney, Jesse Benevides, Johnny Tapia, and winning legitimate world titles in three separate weight divisions after coming back from numerous almost career ending type defeats? ..Dude, take up golf. Wow, I forgot that he schooled undefeated, P4P rated Hamed and ended his career. Yup a flash in the pan was Marco antonio barrera with a record of 65-7, notching up well over 20 world title fights.

i agree but when he faught an albeit lost con dec to freddie norwood was not b level mab an em reached greatness quick an for long stretch marquez longevity has to count for something an being able to stop casamyore an diaz pretty good an depends on future fights his stature could rise esp aginist youngers like khan,or another chance at pac cause if he beats hatton everyone says ricky was shot regardless he is definitly great an i apperciate the counterpuncher he was at his best

Marquez was great within his own weight division.

To me hes not on their level, but just RIGHT below it.... they are def close though.

Though a completely past it MAB gave JMM all he could handle IMO when they fought... even dropping him badly.

JMM has done a lot of good work lately to raise his stock (beating Casa and Diaz) but i really dont think hes on Morales or MABS level yet.

Close though, two more decent wins and id have him there, though i dont think he could ever beat them H2H prime 2 prime, he could equal them in legacy if he can win a few more big fights.

Nothing wrong with being 3rd out of those three though.... all great fighters :good

Dont start this ******ed **** again........the only person who's spewed nonsense that the Morales fight was on the table for JMM was Bob Arum.....every journalist that reported JMM turning down a Morales fight was quoting that scum Arum......

.........and if you want to find out about Arum credibility as as far as the truth is concerned, we dont have to look any further than just a few days past with his outright lies that a 14 day windown was'nt proposed by team Mayweather, when the facts of the matter pointed to that they were.........and Arum cornered by that mediator finally had to admit that indeed 14 days was offered.

.......If you dont think Arum was carrying about that same blatant and gutterish lies back in the days explaining why a Marquez-Morales fight did'nt happen, then I dont know what to tell you.

I'd have to call someone a complete idiot to take Arum's word on anything!

How can you say "dropping him badly when both of them threw shots and MAB's landing first put JMM's gloves on the canvas?????

You're saying dropping him badly, but in actuallity JMM was'nt completely down in that incident......and even after getting fouled afterward.......he continued in good shape without the effects of having been "badly dropped as you've posed it."

I guess everyone can describe it as they please.......but this one really pissed me off Kirk, because I've known you to put things in an honest framework.

Maybe you just got carried away with "badly dropped???":think

skill wise, he can be argued. but MAB and Morales can really define going into war on your feet and with skill. plus 3 knockdowns in one round does not speak well for him

Id say skill wise hes very close, in Hth matchup id almost call it a pickem. I might take him over Morales but Id pick a prime Barrera over Marquez.

But in all time great list id put Barrera and Morales higher based on a better resume.

Skills, abilities maybe equal..MAB and EM have better chins though..heart -all 3 are equal..legacy- Marquez still behind the 2 because of poor career management early in his career plus that of his choice to fight Chris John instead of fighting of still game Erik Morales then , and jumping to rematch Manny right away after their draw.

    1. Morales
    2. Barrera
    3. Marquez

There isnt a great deal between them tho no matter which way you pair them up.

I rank fighters based on ability, which means putting an eye to the skills that they have and what they can do in the ring.

I rank them in this order......

    1 JMM
    2 Morales
    3 MAB

Prime for prime and head to head, I believe JMM beats them both, but would have an easier time beating Morales than he would MAB due to style issues.

The reasons why I believe JMM has an easier time with Morales is that Morales even at his absolute peak, was significantly slower and had less stamina than MAB.

Marquez was the ultimate counterpunching assasin, with a much wider variety and picking angles to throw shots than would a MAB......I think those keys plus the fact that Marquez was much quicker to get off than Morales would win him the fight clearly.
