True story. He actually goes toe to toe with his opponents because of his fans. He wanted to be more exciting.
Actually this is kinda of true. A lot of my friends dads always talk down on Marquez but glorify mab & em...I think its just with older generations.
Juan Manuel was criticised early in his carreer for being too technical and not like other blood and guts Mexican fighters ! Juan Manuel was and is a great counter puncher ! Hit and not get hit is the name of the game ! I used to look at all of his KOs and wonder , ''How can he be boring ? '' Juan manuel became mmore agressive to excite the fans and get the bigger fights ! He was outright refused a fight by Nassem Hamed and conveniently avoided by Morales and Barrera for being ''Too Technical and not exciting enough !'' It took the first war with Manny to give Marquez his props as a Mexican great ! Nacho has been slowly revolutionizing the Maexican style of fighting for years ! Out point your man , when the time comes for the KO or to go to war , o it ! Out smart th e guy first ! Juan manuel is 38 and fights like he's 28 ! A lot because of his hit and not get hit style !!
Your father's friends are probably casual fans who've only watched JMM a few times. As someone who has seen over 40 of his fights, I can attest that JMM adjusts his gameplan based on his opponent. If he's in against someone whom he believes cannot KO him, he will take more chances in order to land big combos. If he's in against someone like Pacquiao, a dangerous fighter with power, he'll use his technical skills a lot more.
He scored a lot of great KOs early in his career. He got a bad rap when he fought Salido. I believe that was on the Hopkins/De La Hoya PPV undercard. He practically won every round against the guy but many were criticizing him for not scoring a KO. Looking back, we now know Salido isn't the easiest guy to get rid of. He has a great chin and is tough as nails himself.
If that's how you see things, wouldn't that make Mayweather Jr. and Cotto Usain Bolt and Jesse Owens on crack?
the majority of mexican fans are casual boxing fans. they dont really understand boxing, they just want to see a good scrap. hardcore mexican boxing fans love and appreciate what marquez brings to the table.
He will go down kinda like sal sanchez. real crafty n skilled but wasnt afraid of wars but he is nowhere near the same level of greatness as sal. thread has me watching both sal n juans fights now
