Why would you feel that Morales would be diciplined enough when he was'nt vs MAB? Had Morales stuck strictly to boxing, he would have clearly beaten MAB in each of their 3 fights imo. .....but thank God for us boxing fans who like to watch exitement, Morales ego got in the way each and every time he got hit hard. I feel it would'nt be any different with JMM.....and coupled with the fact that I feel that JMM is not only quicker and faster to get off his punches by either leading or in counterpunch mode, I dont see where Morales would be able to outbox the quicker, faster, and just outright more versatile fighter. Too tell you the truth, JMM is a stylistic nightmare to all but the most elite skill fighters who have a quickness and speed advantage over him. He's just to good technically and masterful in counterpunch mode. JMM is a natural featherweight, Morales' best weight I feel was between 122 and 126. Certainly Morales was more a puncher at 122 than at 126, and at 130 lbs, he really did'nt have the power to finish even B level opposition. Morales reminds me alot of Alexis Arguello....same type of style and same type of technical rhythm.....but their achilles heel were quick and fast counterpunchers..... ....Note that Arguello I feel was a better fighter than Morales. Better, stronger and more punching power.....even Arguello could be pestified and stymied by the right style....a pesky counterpuncher whos was quick and fast.....exhibit Vilomar Fernandez who is no where near the level of JMM and who gave Arguello fits and beat him in a non-title fight that was supposed to be a tuneup for Arguello. As good a boxer that Arguello was, there were styles that could offset what he did. So my conclusion is that if Vilomar Fernandez could give Arguello fits, JMM would do alot better vs a lesser version of the great Arguello! Btw, this is'nt a knock on the great Erik Morales.....but theirs a styles issue to think about here. JMM is faster, quicker, and imo phsically stronger than Erik Morales. We can get into other things I dont believe are necessary to further discuss this matchup, like balance, footwork, punch repertoire, etc...... ......there are'nt that many things that Morales does better than JMM! Like I said, I have great respect for Morales, but I'd feel less secure of a JMM victory over him had Morales carried his power up to 126 and 130....... A fighter like Arguello against Marquez can be made a strong case for beating JMM, because Arguello has the X factor on his side....the ability to change the course of a fight with a single shot. Morales did'nt have that at 126 lbs and above! The more I think about it, the more nighmarish this matchup is to Erik Morales!
Oh I will not call him a chicken for fighting Juan Diaz, but he doesn't even want the Baby Bull, he wants David Diaz for ****s sake, thats a chicken. instead of staying at 130 and where he has a better chance to win over very dangerous oppenents, if thats not chicken to you, I don't know what is. Get this straight, I am not a JMM nuthugger, I believe he has a very good chance of beating Pacquiao, as well as the other top dogs in the division, he may very well lose and nobody can't dispute that. This is the fight that needs to be made, nothing else, and to this match, I will stand up.
I am more concerned about team Pac putting it on hold until JMM needs a walking stick to get to the ring. I am very looking forward to seeing this in March 2008.

Thats a very good assessment. Morales loved and was used to landing the final punch in the exchanges, he just simply loved to prove he is the better man. I can see Morales getting his punches blocked in the middle of the ring and hitting nothing but air in the ropes. He did get caught many times jumping on the inside with big shots. But I still think he has a good chance, he was also an expert in moving from the outside to the inside, his money punch, the straight right and good jab combination shined here. I think once he find out he can't do it the usual way then he will start picking his shots and looking to connect, setting up a tactical flurry for when he creates an opening. One thing I liked from Morales was his body movent to be able to position himself to throw a good punch from almost any angle, despite having the lesser footwork than JMM and MAB. He would repeat this and adjust accordingly, just like JMM will be adjusting. What an elite fight would this be. IMO of course. His ego may be his downfall but it could also be his spark to improvise, I think he would say to himself "Cabron, me las vas a pagar con esto otro". Along those lines. :thumbsup I will not say he definetely wins, just that he has a very good chance, better than MAB.
Yes, I believe JMM needs to take the smaller piece in the plate, but he shouldn't get shafted with apple pie while the others eat the chocolate cake. Even if you throw the belt out the window, they are fighting for the Ring Championship, and that one matters.
