To be fair to Mayweather, DLH is still a pretty good fighter.
DLH may be 34, but I think that was more than offset by his huge weight advantage over Mayweather.
You and I both know that Mayweather has no business fighting at 154 lbs, yet its exactly where he beat DLH.

The fact that you are not overly impressed with fighters like the Marquez bros, Cotto, and a few others......I think it goes to show your strict preference for defense.

You've got to remember that boxing is an entertainment business.
Naturally the fighter that looks to punch with power is going to expose himself to get hit more than a fighter who does'nt.

There are some sound very skilled fighters out there Scientist, you named a few......the problem with you may be that you want to hold these fighters to the defensive standards of Pernell Whitaker......

......lets be realistic, most fighters are in it to make money, and they know that they are not going to do that trying to emulate a fighter like Pernell Whitaker.

Look at Corey Spinks, he's a defensive minded fighter, but who the hell would pay $50 to see him in a big fight?
Maybe you would Scientist, but not many!

Given the type of bout it was though, I don't really think the size advantage was that big of a factor. It might have made it easier for DLH to block and parry many of Mayweather's shots, but he certainly wasn't imposing his size on Mayweather. Didn't expect him to by the way. He's never fought that way.

Mayweather plain sucked in that fight imo. He hardly threw a combination the whole fight and was trying to get by throwing 30-40 punches a round with many of them being picked off.

He doesn't belong at 154 I agree, but he was fighting basically at the weight of a welterweight and it wasn't as if he came in way out of shape or anything.

As for DLH being a pretty fighter still, yes he is still pretty good. But there's no doubt in my mind that a 2002 Oscar would have knocked this Oscar out, to say nothing of an Oscar 5 years before that, which was when he was in his prime.

I wouldn't pay a cent to watch Cory Spinks. I would pay to watch some of the other skilled performers out there today, but plain fact is there aren't that many that are or will turn into great fighters from what I see. I am far more impressed with some fighters from the past and no, I'm not holding modern fighters up to the standard of Pernell Whitaker as if he is the benchmark, but more as to the general level of the sport in the past.

OK, after the replay I have it 115-112 for Marquez compared to last weeks 114-113.

Rd 1 - Marquez. JMM lands the best shot of an even round.
Rd 2 - Marquez. JMM lands the cleaner punches and manages to hurt MP.
Rd 3 - Pacquiao. MP knockdowns JMM. 10-8
Rd 4 - Pacquiao. MP lands the best punches.
Rd 5 - Marquez. JMM makes a good comeback.
Rd 6 - Marquez. JMM lands more accurate and more frequent than MP.
Rd 7 - Marquez. Very close round and JMM edges it.
Rd 8 - Marquez. One sided round for JMM.
Rd 9 - Pacquiao. MP begins landing better shots again and hurts JMM.
Rd 10 - Pacquiao. MP again hits JMM more and takes the round.
Rd 11 - Marquez. A close round in which JMM edges it with cleaner and straigter shots.
Rd 12 - Marquez. JMM cleanly takes the final round.

    115-112 JMM, close but clear.

Even the HBO team told it like it is. :good

Pac was made to look downright amateurish at times. It was a close but clear win for JMM imo and the result was a reminder of the BS that is ruining our good sport :(

I had JMM leading by 1 point. It was a VERY close fight, could have gone absolutely any way: Pac, draw or JMM

Sensible call. Some others who scored that particular round for Pacquiao never had their contact lenses in or their spectacles were left on the table.
