"Size" also generally (but not always) brings advantages in physical strength, punching power, the ability to take a punch etc. Were not talking about a small ATG vs. a larger clubfighter here, Hatton is a genuine world class fighter and has proved this over a number of years. We can debate the "Hatton/ JMM P4P" or "elite vs non elite" angle but this could well turn out to be a fight where size, and its attendant advantages, decides the day.

There is some serious delusion regarding Hatton's chin. He was hurt by Collazo who isn't a big puncher, clean knocked out by Mayweather, and most importantly saved by the ref against another lightweight last time. Marquez has just proven he can punch at lightweight.

And what did they have in common? They were all well timed precise counters that Hatton runs onto, the sort Marquez specilises in.

And that was against Casamayor who, though getting on a bit, has generally been considered to have an iron-jaw; never knocked out before I believe.

It could be argued that Casa was slipping, and though not quite at peak I am not inclined to agree that he was past it.

Hatton's chin is good, though not top class. Wobbled by Collazo - who has underrated power, KO'd by Mayweather who isn't a proven banger at 147, and buzzed by Lazcano, a decent puncher at 135. It must be said that lesser fighters than any of those have had Hatton in trouble before.

If Marquez proves himself at lightweight again, I would love to see this fight - great clash of styles.

Hattons chin seems ok, but unless you have an iron one, somebody times one right and you can go.

It's like against Magee, who was a solid enough puncher, he got sat on his arse, but was hurt more in the next round but didn't go down. And against Tackie he walked onto a lump hammer in the opening seconds of the last round. I guess it's a lot about what you are doing when you get hit.

Like others have said, Hatton is strong at the weight and against the littler bloke that could be decisive. But if the little bloke can whack and times one.............

The rest of your post is fair enough, but anyone who makes a comment like this has no business speaking about delusion! Hatton's chin is pretty good IMO, not that he's Margarito but better than most out there! His fighting style, take one to give one means he is probably gonna be hit more than most, but he's taken good shots from Castillo, Urango, Lazcano, Tackie and Phillips. Mayweather hit him with a great shot in the tenth round of a gruelling encouter, but other than that, only career knockdown is against Magee, hardly the previous generation's Amir Khan!

But he was. There is no other way to call it. He was in a lot of trouble, and the ref gave him about a minutes warning for the sort of thing Hatton does regularly, it was a stupid amount of time wasted in total including the shoelace debacle.

One thing I've learned on this board, people see what they want to see!!! He got rocked by a good hook (though no worse than I saw Lazcano get rocked several times), held on for a second to clear his head, ref broke them including giving a brief warning for two clear rabbit punches (the "one minute" thing says it all about your objectivity here), Hatton jogs back to his corner and then gets his shoelace done up. Unfortunate that the shoelace came undone, but what's he supposed to do say "actually Ricky you;re gonna have to go back and fight with it undone so a few loons on the internat can't start making up silly stories accusing me of bias"?

Of course not and of course the loons on the internet made up their stories anyway. Of course with the Hatton hater brigade on here it only takes one to make a silly attempt at a "point" and they spread like wildfire! :patsch

I don't know if you even watched it, but he was supposedly warned for holding Hatton and punching him to the body. Watch it for yourself in the vid I posted. Now who does that sound like? That's Ricky's most regular tactic, and he never gets warned in England.

It was a bull**** amount of time wasted, at a crucial point. Hatton wasn't recovered at all. Ask yourself this, if Lazcano was in that position do you think he would have had the same treatment. Would he ****. And you know it.

Here we go again I'm righ you're wrong you know it end of argument blah blah blah. He was warned for rabbit punching, two shots in a row behind the back.! The point was about as crucial as any other where a fighter gets hit with a decent shot. There quite simply was no "treatment". Ref just did his job the way he saw it, two illegal blows so he told him to keep em round the front. Just goes to show if you repeat something often enough however stupid it may be there are enough who will start believing it. Personally, I have eyes and will judge for myself.

Don't know how it's got onto this subject from the issue of Hatton taking punches from JMM anyway but there we go.

Well, it was you that pursued the point so perhaps you ought to ask yourself.

Either way, its clear Hatton's chin isn't good enough to take clean counters from a good lightweight puncher.

i think marquez is a bad style for rick.

marquez is the best counter puncher in boxing in my opinion.

    i wouldn't rule hatton out.

because of his pressure and workrate.

    and the weight factor.

Well I've watched it again and right now I know even less what you're on about. We see a right hand which goes over Hatton's head, a left to the body, another left hook which goes over his head again and then two kidney punches. I'm really not sure which of those you felt hurt Hatton so much that he needed assistance from the referee to clear his head, especially considering that the only ones which landed were body punches. As for "lightweight", the guy moved up to junior welter three years ago for Christ's sake. By that token is Manny still a super bantamweight?

Oh well... I'll agree to differ.

Now try watching previous to that, where Hatton is caught by a counter left hook and is hugging on for dear life. He is nothing like fully recovered, hence he's still trying to cling on which obviously frustrates Lazcano.

Of course a couple of punches to the back are worth a lengthy talk, its not like Hatton was doing this in every round previously. The bias on display was disgraceful, but typical.

Lazcano had done nothing at 140 thats for sure. He was known for his work at lightweight, and still he had nothing as credible as a KO over Casamayor. Yet he buzzed Hatton, and had he been so kindly afforded the opportunity could have finished Hatton. There is no doubt Marquez can hurt him too.
