Just some general comments in response to points made in this thread. Some of Eubank's defences of the WBO were against terrible opponents. Chris could have done better than the WBO but was very candid about his approach to match making. Nobody calls Chris a coward but his resume is pretty poor for one so talented. The two losses to Collins, an average fighter, hurts him also.

As for the Hopkins pull out in 2001. This wasn't a case of ducking or avoiding, it was a business decision. Hopkins was the undisputed champion at 160, a distinction he'd earned the hard way, whereas Joe was simply a WBO strap holder at 168. For him to come over to England to fight for a minor bauble, and attain little credit for beating a fighter not rated in America, he should have been paid accordingly. Which he wasn't. Plus the accounts have that whole incident have mainly come from Frank Warren, and we all know how he's given to embellishment.

And you think he had the slightest concern about a guy who nearly got KO'd in the second in his first big fight ?

It turned into a total mismatch, and I thought Joe was an idiot for making that fight when he did.

However, it turned out to ba a neccesary evil: it put Joe more into the US public eye, making a big US fight more probable, and the total dominance of the display also served to show just how good he really was.

The Manfredo fight was a catalyst to bigger things.

That's always been an issue facing boxers outside the US. No recognition from the US fight fans. Yet you don't see those same fans complaining that their own fighters don't go overseas. From Pavlik, to Mayweather; RJJ to B-Hop; US or nothing. Doesn't make them cowards at all, but it does mean that they missed fighting some awesome boxers in their prime.

So, JC's certainly a man with his heart in Wales. Doesn't make him a coward either. And he proved a number of times that he was willing to make tough fights: £1 to fight Ottke - and £0 to fight B-Hop - both in their prime. Neither one agreed to it because JC wasn't such a big name back then.

So what I'm saying is that JC didn't get the fights, because he wasn't American. Looking at Froch; he's gone out of his way to call out US fighters in the US - and all credit to him for that. But I just don't see any US fighters going out of their way to look worldwide for the best challengers. No different from JC.

Joe had the WBO belt, the least of the 4 titles. It's Joe who should have wanted to unify, but he didn't.
