Cal-Slappy wouldn't have had a PRAYER against Ward. No hope. None.

It is no coincidence that Calzaghe miraculously got over his fear of flying once Hopkins was past his best and Jones was completely shot. There seems to be a lot of revisionism going on with Calzaghe's career, which lets face it, for the most part was pretty unspectacular and for me summed a lot about what is wrong with boxing.

    You're funny.

Hell I'd give a PRAYER if he came out retirement now I'd have made him favourite back in the day.

I never got let down betting on Joe, even when our own bookies made him underdog against Lacy (a lot of people forget that).

Of course the fact that the fight was more marketable and Joe got made better offers then has nothing to with it right?

The fact was prime for prime Joe was a who needs him guy to the yanks by the time the fights happened he was their best option.

He would have dropped out with a hand injury.

The super six was a joke, nearly everyone originally meant to be in it left.

:nono Calzaghe took it from him, as he did with every opponent.

Not sure whether I'd pick him over Ward to be honest. How old would he have been, 39? That's a tough ask, even for someone like Calzaghe.

Slappy avoided almost every major threat in the division, choosing instead to stay at home and fight a collection of 2nd tier fighters. Lacy was his big win, and Lacy proved to be B-level fighter by losing every major fight he was in.

calzaghe reminds me of bute, a string of wins against no-hopers, and suddenly he's "world class".

If Joe Calzaghe was still active, the Super 6 wouldn't have happened. he was THE MAN at 168-175.

the super six was the search for Joe's successor, had he not retired it wouldn't have been required, and Andre Ward would still be fighting the Sheldon Pudwill's of this world in Oakland.

I think he woulds have won it. He was declining but not that much and he would beat all the fighters in that tournament.

Ward would be tough but i feel his workrate and pure toughness would be too much for ward.

If he had stayed then he would have a seriously good record. His record is good as it is but this really would put him up with the greats and he would have lost a lot of doubters.

I always wished he had fought people like dawson and pavlik before he retired and wished hed managed to get Johnson and Otke in the ring too. He could have had a much better record but thats how it goes sometimes.

Hes still a legend and no one can take away what he achieved.

This is the best post in regard to Joe...if Joe had dared to fight top level opponents consistently over the 10 years he was at the top he would had a few losses.

Ward would beat Calzaghe. Not sure Calzaghe would beat Froch. I think it's a toss up either Calzaghe on points or Froch by knockout.
