Joe Calzaghe vs. Bob Foster, who wins this fight?

Foster literally by decapitation. Bobs big right would take the head off Joe

 

Calzage is the best at 168 ever and Foster is top 10 ATG light-heavy....I favor Foster at this weight because it was his home and Calzage lived at 168lb....still a tip top Calzage could cause problems with his movement and fast hands, he would have to be able to avoid and take a lot of slim Bobs power...but Calzage could pull it off.....I favor Bob though at 175

His weight wasn't really LHVY was it ? He gets dusted here, imo.

 

I favour Foster by KO, but i want to ask...

Due to the stupid modern early weigh-ins, wouldn't 168lb Calzaghe be about 175lbs on fight-night, or am i wrong?

 

The first round KO for Foster, while possible, would be EXTREMELY unlikely.

Who did Foster KO inside one that compares to Calzaghe in terms of chin ?

He struggled for fifteen rounds with guys who had been previously KO'd multiple times, including first round KOs.

Yes Calzaghe was Knocked down in his twilight years by two LHWs, but one of those was with an illegal forearm punch and in both cases, he was the agressor for the balance of the round. Bernard didn't even throw a punch for about twenty seconds after Calzaghe got up, so I don't believe Hopkins felt he hurt him much.

I wouldn't put put much stock in those KDs as a measure of Calzaghe's susceptibility to a KO.


And Tiger ?

Dick was a MW for the bulk of his carreer. He weighed in at a career high of 168 for Foster, seven pounds under the limit, so he probably came in around the same.

Calzaghe came in above 190 for his fights at LHW, bigger than Foster ever was, even against Frazier and Ali.


This fight could end anytime, but late rounds stoppage or decision for Foster would be the likely outcome

And its not out of the question (though unlikely) that Calzaghe's workrate would see him to a decision.

Put Bob Foster in there with someone who is in his league and actually has a chance of winning.

Calzaghe was tough as nails, had a good chin, and in his prime, was incredibly fast and had terrific footwork. He'd be popping off bee stings against the bear, however, whose moments of offense would score him plenty of points and allow him to win.

 

Who was the best true Lightheavy Foster beat? Which all time great LHW was this? Eddie Cotton? Roldon? Quarry? Not one in the class of Calzaghe.

Yet I am to believe he would wipe the matt with a prime Joe? Sure. Because he was born decades before, I presume is the usual Classic Forum **** argument.

I would give the nod to Foster because he was more comfortable and proven at the weight. But still a decision win and not very wide. A rough and tumble, unconvincing victory.
