    Calzaghe would stand no chance of going 12 with Nigel Benn. None at all.

    :lol: You cannot seriously compare Nigel Benn to Jeff Lacy surely!

    Great fight this, Benn was a murderous puncher but I'd have to go with Calzaghe.

    If only Calzaghe had came around a few years earlier than he did.

    If we're talking at smw where Benn was more of a counter puncher than all out swarmer then calzaghe outboxes him to a ud.
    But if we're talking earlier, mw Benn and calzaghe drops down to face him then the swarming, relentless Benn will be like nothing he's faced before.
    Calzaghe has great speed, an awkward style and excellent ability to adapt during a fight but if Benn catches him clean he wouldn't let up and calzaghe gets stopped, probably still on his feet but hurt and unable to continue

    When I think you were posting as attberry, there was a silly post comparing a Eubank journeyman to Lacy.
    Why do you think when Piper went into late rounds (11) with prime Benn, do you not think Calzaghe would go the distance? Same applies with Wharton who was tough, but Calzaghe was also. Galvano went the distance also.
    I wonder if Benn would go the distance with prime Calzaghe

    Joe always favoured come forward fighters, he would've handled Benn.

    Benn by stoppage on the three kd rule , calzaghe decides to stand and fight and gets caught benn was a lot faster than some people tend to remember

    Joe on points is the oviouse call but Benn would have made is veryhard work for him and catch him and hurt him a few times.

    Benn planned 12 round fights with Piper, Galvano (II) and Wharton and they were lightheavies.

    Calzaghe is very easy to hit with short overarm right counters and Benn couldn't miss that shot, it was lightning and laced with power. Calzaghe stands and trades with winging shots, it's in his DNA. You don't do that with Nigel Benn in that stance with poor reactions to right hands and quite squared, you just don't.

    Calzaghe dropped that same LHW Piper flat on his face during sparring a few months prior or possibly maybe even after he'd just gone 11 rounds with a prime Benn. Piper never came back to spar Joe after that. That was back when Joe was the reigning ABA LMW soon to be MW champion.

    Piper was a damned good fighter in his own right. He was a bit underrated IMO. The only one of his loses where he was outclassed was against Michalczewski, which turned out to be his final fight. The loss against Carl Thompson early on in his career was due to him being in there with a massive punching CW who was just way too big and strong for him.

    Piper gave the Kronk based WBO champion Leeonzer Barber a terrific fight. Barber's eye was swollen grotesquely and it was surely only a matter of minutes before the doctor stopped it and pulled him out. Unluckily for Piper Barber managed to land the punch of his life and stop him in the 9th. That punch that did him in was an absolute beauty, a perfect left hook that landed flush on the chin. Piper never saw it coming but that shot would've finished off the vast majority of LHWs if it caught them like that.

    Piper's loss against Crawford Ashley, another underrated big punching British LHW, was an absolute war and an extremely tight affair that could of gone either way IIRC.

    Calzaghe never fought anyone as good as a prime Benn, if Bryon Mitchill can Hurt Calzaghe then Benn sure as hell can and if he hurts Calzaghe he would finish him. Benn by late ko after trailing on the scorecards.
