Joe Calzaghe would be knocked out in brutal fashion by Spinks.

The interesting thing is that back when Micheal was the boss at 175 there was no 168 pound division. Joe would have been a better than average light heavyweight in that era. He would have been viewed on the same level as Murray Sutherland; a solid opponent when a top guy is just looking to stay busy.

Yeah, I think he'd be a solid contender or a guy who holds a title for a short time.

People seem to have come to the conclusion:
    1) Spinks=HW champ
    2) Spinks therefore crushes skinny Welshman Calzaghe

But lets look at what is actually relevant in this exciting matchup:

Byron Mitchell is just as physically strong as Spinks was at 175, safe to say Calzaghe isn't getting walked through here

People's predictions would be correct perhaps if Spinks had been some kind of physical beats, the fact is, he wasn't.

At 175 (which is effectively 168 with today's weigh-in rules) Calzaghe, using his vastly superior hand speed and workrate out lands Spinks and takes a UD. This fight is a showcase for Calzaghe to display his phenomenal jab.

On the way to his UD expect Calzaghe to be stunned and to recover several times, as he always does.

Plenty of far less durable fighters went the distance with Spinks, why on earth would Calzaghe crumble if Johnny Wilburn did not?

I believe I heard him said it, during Jones' career pinnacle (after beating Ruiz but before fighting Tarver).

    Insane.

This is like saying Kostya Tszyu (a very good fighter from this era like Joe C) would beat prime Ray Leonard (an ATG from the weight class above him), or saying Winky Wright (a very good fighter from this era like Joe C) would beat prime Carlos Monzon (an ATG from the weight class above him).

    Good point, mate.

Spinks ain't stopping Calzaghe without a lot of luck it seems having looked at the kind of success this Spinks chap had stopping other, far inferior, far less durable opponents.

All signs are pointing to a Calzaghe UD.
