The debate that never dies I thought it was as close as you could get. But with what Hopkins had to pull merely to survive being stopped for the first time in his career (by a white slapper of all things) Calzaghe rightfully won. In fact he won the fight twice - by UD and by stoppage Agree Hopkins should have been DQd, but that was never going to happen with "Firm but Corrupt" in the ring Bottom line is the better man and better fighter won, and Calzaghe's crying cheating fouling divng headbutting racist ***** lost For once, poetic justice :smooch
And Hopkins is still fighting, and solidified himself as a legend, while Cazlaghes so called greatness will be questioned for all eternity
Hopkins didn't belong at 160, he probably should have moved up long before. Hopkins has basically used PEDs as he has moved up in weight to. As a complete package (comfortable weight, experience, strength, younger than 46), the best Hopkins to have ever turned up to a fight is the one that faced Calzaghe.
What has his being a convict got to do with anything? As for a generic story line it's an A+ positive in that he made a mistake as a young man as all young men have & do & then chose the path of most resistance & proved himself a success in his chosen field by self belief, willpower & discilpline & that is to be applauded & not sneered at considering the options left open to him after his jail term. He's an incredible example of the american philosophy of CAN & WILL DO!!!
Yeh stevie, when you pick through the bones of it it's beyond incredible, he's still tormented in many ways as america is an unforgiving place once you've transgressed & gone outside the system regardless of what they say. Bernards a total & compleate restless captive of his own emotions in wanting to be recognised & accepted by his peers for his life achievments with what he's done with his life. You've only got too look at the pavlik fight when he walked over to the ring ropes & stared down into the press section & just stared down at them with not a word spoken. I like the bloke, he's a funny ****er & i bet when he comes to put his boxing life down in writing then he's def going to upset plenty thats for sure:yep. But i wonder how he'll cope when the day comes when he's got to call it a day?? You can see boxings his life, he loves it.
On Friday Night Fights he half-admitted that he just wasn't aggressive and active enough to take the decision convincingly against Calzaghe.

If we add in the remaining six rounds where two of the three judges agreed, Calzaghe takes it 9-3, a result that reflects what actually happened. It wasn't a pretty fight, but it really wasn't a difficult bout to score.
That's a mostly great post. Well done. I always thought it was close enough that calling it for Hopkins was OK (i had it for Calzaghe by a point) but this is a compelling post.
you have no proof at all. joe must have used peds to when he moved up to 175. joe also had great stamina to produce such a high punch output. will just say that he was blood doping. at 43 bhop was at his best?
cuchulain, china hand joe has stated that he thinks calzaghe is the greatest pound for pound fighter ever. he's hardly sane.
