This content is protected Joe Frazier share his toughts about how Joe Louis would have done against him, Ali and Foreman. Frazier showed a lot of respect for Louis in this one. The part on Louis start at 4:37. I think Louis would Ko'ed Frazier and Foreman. Louis v Ali is a tough call. What you guys think about that ?
What i think is that foreman absolutely destroys him, louis was slow with his feet and he would not avoid foreman early, frazier would beat him, louis admited that the pressure fighters always troubled him and ali beats him and it is not any war.. Louis was great but h2h he would not do well against these 3 greats Sorry if i broke your heart. .
I don't think Foreman size and power will be enough to beat a prime Louis in the early rounds. I see Louis using his jab and out-box Foreman in the opening rounds. Maybe Louis will hit the canvas early but you know he always get up to beat his opponents. Louis's hand speed and combinations are too much for Big George. I see a late TKO for Louis in this one. Louis v Frazier is an easy call for me, Louis by KO in 5 or 6. Indeed Louis struggled against brawlers but i can't see Frazier handle with accuracy punches of Louis. Just look what a old Louis (37 years old man !!) did to the face of a prime Marciano. Louis v Ali is the toughest Match up in the heavyweight division for me. In a trilogy it will not surprise me if it goes like 1W-1L-1D for each fighter.
louis would outbox george? So louis is doing what ali could not lol. Forget it.louis did not have the footwork nor the chin to beat foreman.overall louis was a more balanced fighter but h2h foreman stops him. Anyway it is all speculation we.never.will know
We are talking prime to prime. The Ali of Liston or Cleveland Williams fights would have outbox completely George (better than Louis would have done). When Ali fought Foreman in Zaire he knew he couldn't dance like he used to do back in his prime. He did in the first round but he changed his tactic because he began to tired. If you look the damage he did to Foreman in round 1 while dancing it's pretty impressive (couple of straight right hand lmao). So imagine that for about 10~12 rounds plus the trash talk and you have a rip Foreman. Joe Louis had a great chin. Just look how many right hand he took against Schmeling 1 to be KO'ed. Louis is a counter master. Few combinations by Louis in the beginning of the bout will dissuade Foreman to go straight on him and he will finish the job in late rounds with Big George exhausted. I can't see how Louis would lose against him. We will never know but that's why it's so interesting to share our opinions.
You are being biased if you say "i can't see how louis would lose against foreman" i can accept an argument for louis beating george despite i pick foreman to win.and louis did not have "great" chin. He had average chin. Foreman had a much better chin than louis and it is a fact. And ironically i see 74 foreman doing much better against the tactic of a prime 67 ali. And liston would do much better against 74 ali. Foreman did cut the ring pretty well ali would have a hard time outboxing him and noway in hell louis could outbox foreman
If each are in primes Foreman wins by k.o. before round 10 Frazier wins by t.k.o before round 13 to 15 Ali goes to a split decision I think foreman is simply too powerful and too good a chin for Louis. Very one sided. Frazier was also more powerful than Louis and a left hook master, good competitie fight but Frazier is definitely going to win. Ali I think would have the most trouble with Louis, prime ali's greatest attribute as a fighter is being hard to hit and here he's going up against one of the most accurate punchers in boxing history. Louis also had a better harder jab and right hand so this could go either way.
Very good post. I think a lot would pick Foreman and Ali over Louis. The one that I think or the one I fancy that most wouldn't is Frazier. Louis aint getting out the way of Frazier, and I think he stops him after a titanic battle. Frazier maybe hurt several times getting the win. I admire Frazier more than any other fighter that ever lived..What a man !
I don't think Ali or Clay was strong enough pre exile to deal with George. I also pick Liston of the Cleveland Williams fight to beat pre exile Ali too !
I just think that despite Foreman's power, he's tailor made for Louis. Foreman wouldn't by any means be the biggest opponent Louis faced and Foreman can get hurt by Louis power just like Louis could be hurt by Foreman's power. It's not as if Foreman can just recklessly disregard anything Louis throws. And Foreman was wide open for counters, plus, it's not as if everyone Foreman fought just went down ASAP as soon as he waved his glove in their general direction. This fight IMO is a toss up, but I'd lean towards Louis stopping Foreman, perhaps having to get up off the canvas to do so. While I think Foreman was technically better than Max Baer, I think the template Louis used to stop Max would be the same way he'd fight Foreman.
Not the biggest mate, but easily the most powerful. You could very well be right though, I just don't think Louis was a robust man like say Ali, where he could weather long term damage and still comeback..
I'd put it this way, the longer the fight continues, the more Louis chances increase and Foreman's decrease. Foreman would do well to blitz Louis early, but then he runs into the problem of Louis counter punching. Ali staggered Foreman with a counter right hand. A well placed counter right from Louis could have him seeing stars. For some reason, I see Louis/Foreman going like Louis/Buddy Baer 1. He drops Louis early, but Louis gets up and pulls a parade of explosive counter punching on Foreman and stops him somewhere in the mid rounds. Of course, I'm open to the possibility of Foreman perhaps pulling a Norton sequel on Joe Louis. But IMO, a young Mike Tyson would be far more dangerous to Louis because of his combination of speed, explosiveness and power and accuracy. I'd put it this way, if I were managing Louis and the 3 belt holders in the heavyweight division were George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson I'd be gunning for Foreman, hoping Holmes can snatch the other belt from Tyson and get ready for a tough fight against Holmes.
On this topic I agree strongly with you. All 3 of those fighters beat Louis prime vs prime. Sorry Louis fans, (and I'm one) But when you look at the strength's of Frazier,Foreman and Ali and look at the opponents that fought similarly to them, but gave Louis problems. its pretty easy to see what Frazier, Foreman,or Ali could've done with him. For instance Billy Conn gave Louis fits at 170lbs, what would Ali at 6'3' 210-215 lbs who was faster , more powerful, and meaner would've done to him? If short tubby pressure fighter with no head movement T.Galento dropped Louis with a hook what would Frazier be capable of doing? Joe Louis is the best heavyweight ever until the 60's, but from the 60's on up through the turn of the century theirs been plenty of heavys capable of beating Joe. Even the novice talent of a Joshua or Wilder would be a very tough task for Louis . Sad to say,but true in my opinion.
Foreman would just over power Louis. Ali would outbox him. Frazier and Louis would be very competitive, I'd favor Louis 60/ 40.I can see Louis busting Joe up in a UD., but Frazier could wear him down in a war
