It's hardly crap. In fact, it's completely true. The first thing you did say was about Ali, and it was negative. Additionally, I was not stunned by this. So, actually, everything I said was true, wasn't it? :good
There's a quote from Frazier in Thomas Hauser's Black Lights, something about how boxing made him feel, how it gave him self-esteem. It's a really good quote, but I can't find it on the internet, and can't find the book at the moment. I'll keep looking.
Out of the really famous ones, "Lord, help me to kill this man, cos he ain't righteous" and "God, you're in the wrong place tonight" I like the simple, direct, perfect shout from the end of the FOTC: I kicked your ass.
Here's a good one: "What did he know about hard times? Shooting his mouth off - he was an authority at that. Hard times? He never had to do no real work growing up. Spent his summers on a white millionaire's estate training for the ams and occasionally scooping the leaves out of mastah's swimming pool...everything was greased for him...he had a white man in his corner and those rich plantation people to fund him. A white lawyer kept him out of jail. And he's gonna Uncle Tom me?"
I don't think it was necessarily negative at all. I don't think many people say meaningful things often, certainly not sports people. People say meaningful things rarely. Maybe that's a negative outlook on my part, I don't know. I think your post was crap because it belied your own prejudices and agenda concerning another postor rather than any worthy input or acknowledgment of the subject under discussion.
No point in dressing it up, it's pretty clear what you meant and if you really weren't talking relatively you're a very strange man. Hmmm, "crap" but factually irrefutable, sounds very like one of your "Ali" moments that :yep Additionally you've managed to ignore the fact that that post a quote by Frazier in keeping with the theme of the thread. If you're actually advocating discarding what's worthy in a post and dismisisng it as "crap" based upon the parts I don't like i'm going to be a very...very...very busy man.
everybody or most people if they could pick 1 fight in history to see seem to go for ali vs louis or ali vs tyson etc but for a real fight , toe to toe action 15 rounds i always go with my 2 fav heavyweights frazier vs holyfield NOW THATS A FIGHT
You've lost me now. I really have no idea what you think I meant. You're confusing me. I explained it for you already. Of course I was talking relatively, that's what I clarified for you first off. 1. Ali talked a lot, and most of it didn't qualify as deep or spiritual or "superior" to the talk of the "simple man". Most of it was light-hearted entertainment. 2. Therefore, the volume of spiritual, deep, meaningful utterances from Ali may not amount to much more than the average man, or the average fighter. 3. Therefore, let's not assume Frazier was generally always heavily outgunned in meaningful and deeply thought or spiritual talking. That's been my argument all along, and it's not that complicated. And it's a direct response to Pachilles' original post, and absolutely relevant to it. If you wanted to twist it you could say I'm attacking Muhammad Ali. If you wanted to twist it you could say I'm attacking Joe Frazier. You could just take it for what it is.
A Joe Frazier topic with references to Ali - what else is new? The second in the last couple of days,I believe. Don't recall there ever being one single fighter who was as attached and as irrelevant without the mere mention of another as Frazier is with Ali.Quite creepy in a way. Most great fighters have their own legacies to to fall back on.
What it is is exactly what I said - negative, about Ali, and not surprising. Considerably easier to understand and more difficult to twist than the above.
This is a f*cking good post. Ali was the first fighter I was a fan of, but I got to say that in many ways, Joe was more of a man. You made that point well.
No, but I said "Ali rarely said anything meaningful" in direct response to Pachilles' assumptions that Ali was vastly superior as a spiritual or cerebral talker, compared to Frazier. It's strange that you would isolate my statement completely from the context, especially after I immediately clarified it for you when you responded "Ali said plenty of meaningful things". I clarified it, and all you can say is "negative (not surprised)". I take it you understand and agree with the substance of my posts, but for some reason you're taking an anti- position on a personal basis (hence, "not stunned" statement).
