A phenomenal - scary even - performance by Frazier. Foster looked frightened in how fast he had to go backward... yet another reason to give Frazier the first round, if anyone cares. This was Frazier's version of Tyson vs Spinks. Roll over the undisputed, hardest punching light heavyweight champion in two rounds and beat the greatest heavyweight of all time four months later.... what a man. Frazier that night, would've beaten many greats. He already beat Ali right after. I like to watch this fight as appetizer before watching Frazier vs Ali I. Makes the fact that Ali went the full distance with an animal like Joe even more impressive.
Fraziers prime ran from Mathis to Ali , basically 68 - 71 , during which he was an exceptional fighting machine defeating the undefeated Mathis, Bonavena, a prime Quarry, a prime Ellis, Foster and Ali .... that is a pretty terrific group of men at the top of their game ... Joe Frazier was not only an exceptional heavyweight champion, he is often left out of and deserves high mention in the all time pound for pound rankings .... Forgotten by many and under rated by many but not by HE
As you say, this is truly a terrific fighter. I don't think he gets his due compared to other great swarmers like Dempsey, Marciano and Tyson. Yes, he was a bit too reliant on his left hook, but what a machine of destruction he was in his prime!
