I'm sure Shane will be a top coach but it won't be judged by padwork. Could stand and watch a boxercise session at a fancy country club and see some amazing, eye catching padwork by the school mums

Joe is probably a great man to get a guy fit for a fight. He must work very hard with his boxers cos they all seem to havE a lot of faith in him. They follow his strategies to the letter.
But I just don't think he reads a fight very well or gives good advice in the corner between rounds. I'd have a lot more faith in Shane in the corner.

The best kid he brought through was John Murray - he's hardly an Ingle or Calzaghe.

Agreed. Shane is coolness personified. Gives his boxer a concise sensible run down on how he is doing and clear simple easy to follow instructions on what to do in the up coming round.

Joe does not read fights well and does not give good advice in the corner.

    Its pish is it?
i have heard his advice on TV many times in the corner and it aint good advice IMO.
Did you hear what he was saying to Quigg in the Frampton fight - you could have pulled a guy in off the street and he would have done better.
He literally was following Skys cue in the corner ffs Billy!

    Other fights -
Quigg-Salinas remember he said he he 'planned' to be behind at half-way.

Macklin-Sturm when he never once told Matt to pace himself a bit.

....he just isnt good in a corner between rounds. He just isnt. I think a lot of his fighters do well IN SPITE of joes advice rather than BECAUSE of it.
Crolla could have won better and easier against Barroso. Joes tactics were dangerously risky - I know he got away with it, but it really could have backfired.

Joe obviously has a lot of influence over his fighters, they put a lot of faith in him, sure. But that is probably due to all the hard work he puts in with them in training, the long hours in the gym, in between fights. Nobody is questioning his dedication, commitment etc

But during a fight, with all due respect Billy, he is poor - at times bloody awful in fact. He should stay out of corners altogether. Stick to the gym.

Also - I know its a different matter, but how come endless people say he is an arrogant plonker in real life too - are the all wrong?

You won't get Billy to admit anything other than Joe is a great guy and world class trainer, Joe and Billy work together for sparring etc and if you think about it they get the same kind of stick from guys on forums like this one that they are no good and lucky coaches.

imo Billy should be teaching Joe a trick or two because I rate him higher than Joe and i think the fact Billy is spending so much time at Joe's gym is actually regressing his coaching skills. David Brophy went into the George Groves fight with exactly the same plan as Anthony Crolla did against Barosso, hands high and tight an try take the sting out of the opponent.

Billy mate if you read this, go back to what was successful for your fighters and stop copying Joe Gallagher because it isn't helping your boxers :good
