    Good, what was that? lol

thanks Senya....the "sparring exhbition" like the newspaper says still puzzles me a little bit, like if it was not even an official fight...

"Sparring exhibition" or "exhibition of sparring" often just meant "showing cleverness."

As long as LMR ranks ahead of Griffith, it's all good. Then again, McGrain thinks Jack Dick Turd was better than Kid Chocolate, so I doubt that's gonna happen.

LMR is locked behind Griffith, by some distance. But, carry up the beatnik.

Having another Russian studying boxing history and very scrupulously at that, was a surprise by itself. ;) Argueing with him was never easy and taught me not to take anything for granted (including boxrec data), to have evidence to back it up.

Now i've had a close look - can you explain your thinking that they should be switched in more detail? Maybe i can make a last ditch change of some sort. I look at LMR i've got a guy who:

Probably should have gone 2-2 with Griffith but ended up losing that razor-thin series.

    Went 1-3 in title fights.

Posted a total of zero defences.

Has a crackling resume at 160 in spite of the fact that he's a weltwereight, the kind of thing that gets you onto the list (if you also look superb, which he does).

    Got pegged by Cokes.

We post that against, in Griffith:

A guy who has the better top wins.

A guy who WON their series.

A three weight world champion who WON fifteen title fights at those three weights.

An equally good resume at MW but additional at WW and probably MW given the Tiger win.

    Got pegged by Monzon.

I mean i'm trying here, but I just do not see what you are trying to tell me.

I'm really beginning to think it is. What possible reasoning exists for reversing the ranking?

You would have to feel strongly that LMR won all four fights by a wide margin. Even then Griffith beat almost twice as many top guys, did more at the championship level, and for longer. I don't see it and although I don't think it's there to be seen. Yeah he looks great on film, but the record speaks for itself.

Clearly says it was a "sparring match" and that an agreement was made saying that they would take it easy........ sounds like a pure exhibition but if so the crowd reaction seems strange... Interstingly in the two short articles above Paddy Slavin signed to fight Peter Maher and Bob Fitzsimmons is leaving to sign a fight either with Corbett or Maher.
