Yeah man. I like Joyce but boy.... His defense and chin are really questionable. If Jennings had more power he would have won that fight by KO no question. I still give him a good 30-35% chance against Whyte but he would probably lose for the above reasons.
Whyte is very good at bullying away to the body, and has the strength to stay in the pocket against come forward fighters. He also has a very good jab. Those two things alone would cause Joyce all sorts of problems. I've always thought Joyce looked terrible, but the one thing I thought he had going for him was stellar toughness. But now that we've seen him hurt against Jennings of all people, I don't hold out much hope for him at the top level.
Whyte KO. Joyce has demonstrated a fantastic chin to date vs these B/ C level opposition but this because he defense is so bad. He can't keep eating quality punches as he climbs the levels. Also, there is a potential weakness to the body which Whyte has the tools to exploit. Good matchup, would be a fun watch style-wise.
the problem with Joyce is that if you’re in shape and have decent defense and reflexes, he basically gives a never ending slew of opportunities to counter him. Whyte Would probably just sit back and touch Joyce up and sink in the occasional big hook to the head or body, one of them eventually would do the job. Joyce may get through a few times and hurt Whyte a bit- but Whyte’s one of those guys that you have to nearly kill to stop and I don’t think Joyce has the type of power to do that. Probably Whyte by KO but I also think there’s a chance of a very close decision going either way if Joyce makes it through the fight.
