He's a better boxer with a better chin than Efe tho.

Should have been, but despite this he then took four more rounds to close the show. Why? He knew he could hurt him but waited. He knew Pulev would turn his back when hurt but waited. He wasn't trying to get rounds under his belt - he was hesitant. Pre-Wlad AJ would have stopped Pulev in the 4th.

He's mentally scarred and does not respond well to being hit. Evidenced by his timid approach to Usyk after being buzzed early in the fight...

Agreed. I think McCraken didn't help him and tried to turn him into too much of a boxer.

He's a good boxer, but his strengths are his combos and power.

I think he's been trained only to take the risk when necessary really.

Against Usyk he will have tor risk it. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I just hope that if AJ fights well and wins, people don't hate on him because "it's pre-war usyk, not prime Usyk" BS.

If Usyk isn't ready, he shouldn't fight. If he fights when he's not ready, it's his own fault. Usyk is intelligent, I don't think he'll fight unless he knows he's ready.

I don't believe he lost 22lbs at war, I think this is just Usyk mind games.,

It wasn't McCraken's fault; he was AJ's trainer from the get-go - albeit behind the scenes initially, with Sims nominally front-of-house - when he boxed aggressively on the front foot. That's part of RM's training DNA - witness Froch.

AJ changed his style because he doesn't like getting hit and lost confidence. The change of style is on AJ - he brought in Angel Fernandez at exactly the time his more cautious approach crystallised...

Fair enough. I also remember AJ saying he tried to outbox Usyk because Fury said he couldn't lol.

AJ definitely has a mental problem. He should rewatch the moments he's taken big shots and survived.

I still think it's wise to simply outbox his opponents if he can, but it boggles the mind why he thought he'd outbox Usyk.

Against Usyk, Fury and Wilder he'll have to KO or will get sparked himself.

I think he'll try execute a more aggressive approach in the rematch - he'd lose face not doing so. We'll see what happens if he gets buzzed doing so. That's the big test of the rematch - sucking it up and pressing forward when hurt...

I rate both highly and interesting contrast of styles.

Joyce is handful for anyone and has a solid chin, good jab, great work rate, apply a lot pressure great, great engine, decent power but slow hands, lacks head movement and is very open defensively.

Sanchez lacks KO power but is a very rounded fighter. Sanchez is an intelligent boxer, good judge of distance, good hand speed, good foot work for his size, good head movement, solid defensively and a good counter puncher.

Close to call, I'd 2ant Joyce to win but if had to be on it I'd say Sanchez points win.

Sanchez's Cubano Slickness will be completely offset and negated by Big Joe's slow-fast speed. He'll have success in the early rounds running and scoring with some clean counters, but Joe will walk and wear him down applying that relentless pressure. Joe's slow-fast speed and off-beat rhythm is all wrong for Joe let alone for Sanchez and the later will be bewildered by the fact he's getting caught consistently by shots he can see coming but can't get out of the way of. Big Joe by stoppage within 8 or 9 rounds.

It makes complete sense for Joe Joyce to fight the highly rated Frank Sanchez next, as you laid out.

    No reason not to.

So, of course, Joe Joyce agrees to fight Christian Hammer, who Frank Sanchez floored and shut out over 10 rounds last time out.

    The reasons it isn't happening:

    - Sanchez is with PBC and promoters generally prefer in-house fights
    - Both men may have reservations about travelling for the fight
    - It would be on very short notice, which most top fighters are not happy with
    - Sanchez might not want want to fight Joyce, he may regard him as high risk low reward (or vice versa)

The PBC aspect is spot on

And for reason i can't for the life of me fathom why Mitch keeps mentioning Broner as a Connor Benn opponent
