Wasn’t balance a large issue of how Louis was floored by Braddock? Louis squared up and got caught, that happens to the best of em from time to time. Doesn’t reflect how good his chin was, nor the evolution of boxing, in my opinion.
You really believe that a 6'5", 230+ man of solid muscle and athleticism would not have knocked Louis down with a bladder shot? Really, we have nothing further to talk about.
I think there's a better chance Braddock would floor Usyk with a right than Dubois putting Louis out for several minutes with a body punch, absolutely, yeah.
And I find this shocking. You honestly think that a light-hitting career LHW with chronic hand problems would knock down a guy who has taken punches, including big body punches, from AJ and Fury?
A Marciano enjoyer can't see a 6"2 195 lbs puncher flooring Usyk? I agree he probably wouldn't catch him coming in the way he did Louis but what if he hit him in the belly? Saying Schmeling couldn't beat Usyk with a baseball bat was something I forgot to address by the way. Max wouldn't need a baseball bat. He was the best puncher of the 1930s barring Louis and had all the experience, speed, stamina, you name it. Usyk would have his hands full with him as Schmeling's right hand would be a southpaw's worst nightmare. Turning up the heat in the later rounds after exhausting his opponent wouldn't work either, considering Schmeling's gas tank. Essentially he'd have to outbox Schmeling and i cant see it being anything other than an even fight.
Joe Louis offensively was the greatest heavyweight in history. No exceptions... Some heavy's hit harder with one punch (Liston, Tyson, Lewis, Shavers etc) Some had faster hands , (Ali, Dokes, Patterson, Holyfield before the juice) But no heavyweight in history had the combined attributes of , speed, power, timing, instincts , intuition , punch selection, countering ability, and accuracy of prime Joe Louis. The only heavy I 've seen in my almost 50 yrs of studying the sport that came close to Louis offensively was prime Mike Tyson. But Tyson's combination punching was less intuitive, and much more predictable. If Louis's defensive skills and ability to take punishment were closer to his offensive ability he'd no doubt be the G.O.A.T His offensive prowess hid merely average defensive abilities and chin. Those were Louis's Achilles heel... But the opponent had to survive long enough to exploit them..... Most couldn't.
